    Source selection

    Hi, everyone.

As I've mentioned in the DIY thread, I will be building a pair of Statement II's. Plan on driving them with an outlaw 975/ 5000 combo.
After speaking with Outlaw Audio, they recommend using a marantz pre/pro due to the 975 not having USB or aux for an ipod(for the wife).

I will need a way to hook up:
    Ipod
    Laptop(audio/video)
    Fiber op TV

Any suggestions for how to do this with a 975 pre/ pro?

    Thanks.

    Follow up Question

Also, as a follow up question:

What is the downside to pluging in an IPOD output(headphone jack) to the aux inputs of the pre/ pro? I made the assumption that the Aux inputs were there for that reason specifically.

    My plan was to use:
1 x HDMI from the latop out to do Video/ Lossless audio
1 x HDMI from the Fiber-Op RCVR for TV watching
1 x Aux inputs for IPOD, music player, etc.

Maybe I'm missing something, but that seems to make sense to me!

Thanks again for any clarification/ help anyone can provide.

    - Tim

Does your laptop send audio through the HDMI ? It's fairly common in computer graphics chips for the audio to be separate , even in high end graphics solutions. And does your laptop have the graphics horsepower to run a TV size display at its native resolution? Otherwise , I don't see any issues with your hook up plan , either , except I can't see an auxiliary port on the 975 on Outlaw's site. They have a photo of the front panel and there isn't one there. I don't see one listed here either. (Also from their site)

No aux input on the front. If you look at the rear they have left/right aux audio inputs. I was gonna go from ipod 3.5mm to them with a y adapter for the wife.

Laptop is a custom xps 1530 ( 7years old, but I keep upgrading it) has hdmi audio output, and video output is full res for my current 42" setup.

*just noticed the follow up regarding the dock... that would be a good idea too

The 3.5 mm to L and R RCA is what I use for the old amp I have for computer audio at the moment. Much cheaper than a specialized dock. Good solution. That's good about the laptop , too. Not everybody thinks that far ahead. With those things cleared up , I don't see anything that would prevent you from implementing your solution with the 975. The lack of USB doesn't seem to affect you at all.

edit: A review of your set up when you get it would definitely be welcome!

Will definitely review once set up is finished. Might be a little whole though. I'm renovating a house, building speakers, and spend half the year in the Arctic for work . Thanks for the input, it is appreciated!

Hmmm...a quality (albeit a bit bare-bones) surround processor for just $550? Just ran across this in Home Theater magazine, and it looks very interesting. I don't have any experience with Outlaw...what do others think of this?

A friend of mine had a few days left before he had to return his 950 back to Outlaw (he bought the AT Clone and uses an Anthem Pre2L for his 2 channel listening). I thought why not? This is a good chance to try the Outlaw in my system for a couple days. I did a few comparisons the past 2 nights and...

                        Hi -

I have a modest (!) HT system that needs a total upgrade (too embarrassed to give a description!).... most urgently a good receiver.

The problem is - all the machines out there seem to have an ABUNDANCE of inputs and outputs, both audio and increasingly, video .....

I just purchased a 1067. How do you hook up an ipod to the 1067? Dumd question i guess?

I first tried to hook it up to video input 1 and i can listen to the music, but that is my input for the dvd player even though i have the video input set to another video for that.

                        by slayer
My question is about programming for a rear sub. I have my front/main sub hooked up to the LFE/sub preout. No problems here. I have another sub in the back of my room and it is hooked up to the AUX 2 output to mimic the main sub. No problems here.
I want to try my rear sub as a dedicated rear...
