    Room Acoustics HiFi or HT

    Hey duders!

I'm doing some research on room acoustics and treating the room so it's not an added instrument or so they say....

I'm sort of confused right now with :

Can a room be treated for both 2 channel and 5-7 channel ?

Should the rears be treated to diffuse......and if so how does that react with 2 channel.....

technically speaking......2 speakers firing at eachother as is the case with a 5-7 channel setup....don' t they sort of cancel eachother out ?

    Thanks for the help here!
Got a nice rack to show me ?

You are looking at two very different environments:

    1) Two-channel, where you want the room optimized for sonic "honesty", ie. detail retrieval, spatial accuracy (soundstage and imaging), tonal accuracy and on and on.

    2) Multi-channel where the surround speakers basically override any acoustic nuances (brute force approach, IMO).

I'm pretty sure that you cannot optimize a room for both at the same time, although compromising on both situations may give you a room you can live with for each - I dunno. If you could optimize for both, it would be some SERIOUS acoustic engineering. But hey, I've been wrong before (at least once I know of : ). It'll be interesting to see others' feelings on it.

Listening room measurements / How'd you do it?
      by pearsall001
I presently have a GIK monster bass trap & two Echo busters corner traps. The difference they made was quite noticable. I want to take it further w/ more absorption panels, bass traps, diffusion panels, etc. but first I'd like to measure my room's acoustics. With room measurements I can then decide...

Exploring Common DIY Terminology - Impulse Response

      Impulse Response

An impulse response is a graphical representation of a loudspeaker's response to an ideal impulse signal. The impulse response is essentially the loudspeaker's reaction to a sharp and short burst of energy. It is a powerful tool for loudspeaker designers to assess the speaker's time-domain performance and identify various characteristics of its sound reproduction. Creating an impulse response graph for a loudspeaker requires specialized equipment and software for accurate...

B&W speakers vs Room Acoustics, master thread
      by BassThatHz
I'd like to start a master thread about B&W speakers vs Acoustics, with supporting measurements there of.
Many people have had problems with finding optimal B&W speaker placements, and perhaps this thread could be used a starting "reference point" for those seeking advice in...

Statement 2s in reference room project
      by Hellcommute
      Hi all

I registered here to share my results with existing builders and future builders. The Statement 2s are great. Thanks to Jim and Curt for making this design available. Excellent results.

My build is fairly close to the build plan. The only deviations were adding an additional...

Power response, acoustics and how a "flat on axis" design sounds in a room
      by fjhuerta
      Hi all,

I've been playing around with one of my designs (the Monoliths): a 2.5 way with Peerless 830884 drivers and a SEAS 27TBFC on top. My parents have them, and they asked for a bit more top end sparkle (I assume due to their hearing loss).

      Anyway, after further refining...
