Buying components abroad

Do any Canadians have any experience buying components from the US and shipping them or vice versa.

I was considering buying a power amp from a shop in the US but was wondering if it was worth it, especially since US components typically sell for less than retail. Although I can save money, there are so many things that could potentially go wrong.

I was thinkning about getting the Dreadnaught from a US shop as it is around the same price as getting the Integra Research RDA-7 from a Canadian shop (to match with the Integra Research RDC-7).

I just was not sure if it was worth the risk, ie. the normal risks from buying from a shop which I have physically not been to (I think I understand the duties, tax and brokerage issues).
