    advice for surround sound processor..

looking for a decent used processor, for use in a 5:1 system, with a price range between $500-750. Used to have a Lexicon DC-1 but it died. Kaput.

    Do not need HDMI switching.
Speakers are B&W 804 Matrix with CDM-1 for surrounds. An Emotiva xpa-5 as the amp.

Been thinking about Lex MC-4, Sunfire Grand Theater, Anthem av30...and would love any suggestions..

    thanks
bought a lexicon mc-4...thanks for all the advice

    What features do you need?

im a simple guy...and now that I can't find old stereophile issues of reccomended components, I love exploring the internet looking for information, so...

I just want it to sound great. Going to buy a used Oppo for blue ray and sit back and enjoy. I know it's very subjective, but you think there's something great that has held its value over the years...thats my wheelhouse.

and btw, my zadi's first name was kalman.

Get an Oppo BDP-105 bluray player (it has HDMI, USB and SPDIF inputs) and you won't need a processor.

Functionally, perhaps, but the user interface is nowhere near that of any processor I have used and there are significant limitations in use of features, such as bass management, etc.

I am a big fan of the 105 but I would not consider its use without a processor. That said, it definitely enhances the operations of any processor and makes choosing one less formidable.

Agreed. The 105 is not designed to have the source switching, soundfield processing, or even simple volume control of even the most basic of modern processors. I'd use its capabilities to augment a processor myself, not replace.

                    hmm..

im going to try and pick up a used oppo 83, dont think I can swing the 93 or newer…

ive been researching a bevy of processors, and right now, it seems to be between

                    lex mc-4
                    anthem avr-30
                    aragon sound stage
                    sunfire grand theater 2

kal, say you had a son going to start a decent HT, who was a budding audiophile—which one would you steer him to..for features, ease of repair and reliability?

if theres something not on that short list, he’s willing to read and learn about other possibilities before chosing..

Hard for me to help. I am not familiar with any of those dated processors. I keep asking you what features you require but have still not gotten a response.

BTW, I have an Oppo 83SE available now. :W

                        I'm not avoiding the question.
