I found a Denon AVR-688 open-box at a going-under Circuit City today. It's only $175. I was surprised but maybe this isn't such a good receiver. I'm not looking for anything crazy but I do have 2 HDMI sources (BluRay and my cable box). I plan on using the speaker outputs until I can get my amps finished (DIYer). Is this a viable option or should I just suck it up and spend more for something better?
Should I buy Denon AVR-688 for $175??

I have a friend who has that AVR. It's nothing super special, but as long as you can leave the store knowing it works fine, I think I would pull the trigger. I have a AVR-589 as a second AVR in the living room, I think it works out great. The Old Woods Theater

by mskvareninaMy apologies if this has been covered before but I've got a pair of N802s I've been driving with a Denon AVR-5803 (170wpc).
At normal volumes the Denon was OK, when I cranked it up, the receiver would distort and clip. The bad/good news is the Denon was destroyed by a lighting strike...-

Of course SB Channel is set to on.

by ParsonskI'm wondering if anyone has a Denon avr-2800,
can you take 4 of the 5 channels and bi-amp a speaker with it (2 channels to each speaker, 1 will be left over)
