Help! I want to get a home theater system

I have a question and I hope that someone here can help me.
I stumbled over this forum when searching for information on home theater systems, because I want to build a movie room for my family. From the threads I read through I think that many of you know a lot about home theater systems, so I thought you might give me some advice.

I want to buy a home theater system for a room in my cellar that is approximately 3 x 4 meters big. I shouldn't be too expensive, but also not to cheap. I want something that has really good quality that my family can enjoy.

In the internet I found many pages (like this one for instance: http://www.systemtheater.com/ ) that say that best theater systems are: Sony DAV-FR9, Onkyo LS-V955, Boston Acoustics Avidea 610, Panasonic SC-HT920 and Yamaha DVX-S120.

Are these really the best ones? Should I go for one of those? Or are these not recommendable for a newbie in the home theater szene?

Those are the HTs that are the "cheapy" setups. You can do a lot better for not a whole lot more. You should look around the forum and see what you can find that fits your price range...

A good starting point is mixing something like Rotel Gear with B&W speakers. Can make for a very good HT system that won't (completely) break your budget... but will "WOW" most people that hear it if they are coming from the systems you listed above.

I will say though that the best that you listed are probably the Onkyo and Boston Acoustics. Yamaha is pretty decent as well.

Another thing to consider is how much your system will be used to listen to music, that can change your focus as well.

Thanks guys! I will take a look at those Onkyo HTs. Actually I talked to a friend of mine just yesterday who also mentioned them,...so I guess if so many people recommend them they must be a good idea.
