    Subwoofer Volume - What Setting?

I have an M&K 860 Sub connected to a Rotel 1068 pre/pro. I am controlling the sub via the 1068 but was wondering where I should have the volume knob turned to on the Sub? I currently have it set to the mid-point between Min & Max volume. Or does it not matter?

    Thanks for your responses.

IMO, you should set the volume knob on the sub so that it is close (for starters) to the calibrated level when the 1068 subwoofer trim adjustment is at "0".
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

To accurately set the sub's volume with respect to the other speakers, you should invest in an SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter - I prefer an analog over a digital - and a calibration disc. For 2-channel audio, any good sweep tone CD will do fine, and for DVD there's Digital Video Essentials or AVIA. FWIW I prefer the DVE disc.

        Hi,
I have found that listening to speech, both male and female can allow one to assess the maximum level of sub-bass re-inforcement. It may be that avoiding un-natural voice still gives too much bass, but at least it's a starting point.

Today, I've gotten around to setting up my 1068 for HT correctly. I went out a got a SPL meter (radio shack model). So, I go though the motions measuring distances, and using 80db as the sound level to achieve from my listening position. I did the fronts, center and rears, but I got to the sub, I wasn't...

Why is sub not working with RSP-1068 ?
          by 94Cobra
Hello - new member here. I just plugged in my new SVS PB12 NSD/2 sub using the low level input from my RSP-1068 and the sub will not play. The only way it will play is if I turn the gain knob on the sub to full max, and add +10db to the sub on the test tone menu, and add another +10db in the seperate...

More 1068 weirdness: No Sub Signal (except when set to "max")
          by InTheRed
OK, more weirdness from my new 1068. I can't seem to get a subwoofer signal at all unless I set it to "max" under the speaker settings. Under the subwoofer settings everything is set to 0db and it's crossing over at 100hz (changing these seems to make no diiference).

          I know...

          RSP-1068 subwoofer problem
          by chaochou
I purchased an RSP-1068 and RMB-1075 two years ago. They are hooked up to Paradigm monitor 11's, CC-370, ADP-370 and PW-2200 subwoofer. 90 percent of the time this system is used for TV and movies. About a year ago I noticed that the subwoofer was not always automatically turning on (up to 50 percent...
