    HDMI Problem playing through Receiver

I have an HDMI cord going from my Motorala DCT6412 HD Cable box to my Yamaha HTR-6090 receiver, and an HDMI cord going from my HTR-6090 receiver to my 60" Sony Grand Wega SXRD. I will get a brief picture and then the screen goes green and I can still hear the audio from the channel. If I skip the receiver and go directly from the HD cable box to my HDTV then the picture is fine, but then I don't have the surround sound. My Denon 2910 DVD player works great through the receiver. Anyone have any suggestions or know whats wrong?

    Thanks

I have the same reciever and have not had issues playing through with HDMI.

Currently I have a Yamaha DVDA/DVD/SACD/CD 5 disc player going through the 6090 with Audioquest Component and Digital coax, then a 12meter run of AQ HDMI to the TV. I have also tested S vid in and through the HDMI out and it worked fine.

I have not tried putting anything HDMI in to the reciever though. Im guessing its your HD cable box, and the type of HDMI it uses?

Im kinda taking shots in the dark, Im not all up to date on the HDMI stuff, all that pish posh gives me a headache about 1.1,1.2,1.3 in the future BS and why and what works.

Just make one platform that is the same and leave it that way already! [/rant]

The last few Motorola boxes I've been putting in are no longer compatible going through a receiver (it actually gives an error stating that). It should have an optical and coaxial output that will give you surround sound from it.

One of the greatest problems encountered with HDMI products to date falls into this category, as some of the sources, most notably some cable set-tops, do not recognize the presence of any device between itself and the sink. Insert another HDMI device in the middle, no matter how proper its design and software might be, and the system chokes with no signal visible on the sink. There are fixes for this that typically involve a firmware upgrade to the source, but if the fix isn’t available, try and explain all of this to a client when you’ve just sold them on the benefits of HDMI.

HDMI, particularly from set to boxes, seems to annoyingly finicky. As mentioned you're only real solution is a firmware upgrade (that works) from your service provider/Motorola or run the cable directly to your display and a seperate digital audio cable to your receiver.

The new Pioneer Elite 82 Series receiver I recently installed had an instruction insert included with the user manual about hooking up HDMI with a high def cable box. Essentially, I had the same problem as you described . . . sound but no video with just an HDMI cable hooked directly to my receiver, and the receiver hooked to the TV. What Pioneer said to do, and what worked, was to also hook up component cables (along with the HDMI cable) from your cable box to your receiver. Doing this, and the video appeared on the TV screen.

My TV does not have the HDMI in-put (Pioneer Elite 58" rear projection HDTV 1080i). But, even though I had both the HDMI cable, and component cables hooked from the cable box to the receiver, the receiver is processing/up-loading an HDMI signal, or simulated HDMI signal to my TV via component cables between receiver and TV(as shown on the receiver screen that HDMI signals are being processed).

I tested the picture/audio difference using this set-up, versus just the component cables (took HDMI off), along with an optical cable for audio. I found there is a marked difference/benefit using the HDMI in the loop. Both the video and sound was measureably improved (measured by my ear and eyes).

I also have the same Pioneer Elite receiver in my other house in Florida, hooked up to a high def cable box, and the new Sony XBR3 46" 1080p. These are all hooked together via HDMI cables alone. In this set-up, the HDMI cable works flawlessly for both video and audio without having to use any component cables (same combo high def/recorder boxes through Comcast in both house(s) set-up).

So, I would say that I would not blame the cable box on any glitch with HDMI, as it seems more to do with not completing the loop from cable box, to receiver, to TV . . . with straight HDMI cable connections.

Yep.... the HDMI problem is in the box. SA 8300HD also has the same problem. Even worse most of the time with the SA8300HD is even if you by pass the receiver period, it still gives you a jacked up picture.

The main problem that I have with HDMI is that unless you are buying a component that is of great quaility. (2910, 5910, blue-ray, HDDVD, etc) your HDMI normally sucks. I have seen 1 cable box that worked with HDMI. Every other box that I have seen other than good stuff mentioned above is junk! It is like the cable box co. know that they need HDMI out, but they just make cheap HDMI parts in the box!

There was a big article on Custom Installer Mag about HDMI issues this very month. I won't even use it any more. Component Video has a great picture, and NO problems. HDMI is to unstable for me right now.
The Bitterness of poor quality last longer than the joy of low prices.

                Greetings,

I am running a SA 8300HD to an Anthem AVM50 via HDMI with no issues. I have 3 other HDMI sources running through the Anthem to my Sony VPL-HS51a front projector: Oppo 970HD, Toshiba HD-A1, and Panasonic DMP-BD10. All work with no issues.

The problem the OP is having is definitely related to that Motorola STB and handshaking problems with his receiver. The only fix is through firmware which as to be done through the cable company.
                Regards,

scientific atlanta explorer 4250HD problem with yamaha rx-v663

                  Hey guys,

This is the problem i'm getting. I just recently purchased a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver and am having problems when flipping though channels with my cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD) hooked up to it through HDMI....

                  This is what happens....

I thought it was the receiver so I returned it thinking it was messed up and got a new receiver (same model).

Once I hooked it up again I got the same issues. So I thought it was my cable box. I just got a NEW cable box today, and the same crap is happening.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Any explanation or any tips on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I read somewhere that some cable boxes have issues transmitting a steady signal when going in through a receiver and that I might need to upgrade the firmware. I couldn't find a new firmware anywhere. SO again, any help would be appreciated.!....

                  Thanks in advance

Quite a thread title, I guess. Perhaps I should subtitle it, "or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb... I mean, theater."

So, it's happening... HDMI 1.4 is in the final stages of work, and will likely be released within the month. You can expect to see products start showing up after New Year's, and more prevalent throughout 2010. Here's what you need to know.

                    Hello all,

Recently I have been archiving all of my recorded music to FLAC. Just this past week I discovered "DVD-Audio Explorer 2008" which has allowed me to extract all of my DVD-Audio recordings as multi-channel MLP files. I then used "eac3to" to convert the MLP...

I ran into many of the hdmi issues most people face. My laptop has HDMI output, with no seperate SPDIF output port. Initially I thought I would just run the HDMI --> TV, then TOSlink to my amp. Little did I know most TV's downmixes digital signal to 2 channel.

I am happy to say that...
