I'm on "final approach" with regard to my proccessor upgrade.
My shortlist consisted of 3 processors:
- Meridian G61
- Krell Showcase processor
- Krell HTS
The Meridian G61 processor is not my favourite at the moment for the following reasons:
- it does not have balanced outputs
- it has 96kHz Dacs and not 192kHz Dacs which the Krells have
So, it's between the Krells:
The HTS 7.1 processor has the following which the Showcase does not have:
- Multizone (which I don't need)
- Krell current mode topology (which I would like to have as I'm considering a 'source' upgrade at end of 2007 which might include a Krell cd player or DVD Standard player - and this should match like a glove)
- Wider audio bandwidth (not a problem as I don't need extra bandwidth for zones, etc)
Both Krell processors have balanced outputs and superb dacs which I prefer over the Meridian plus the Krells would match well with my Krell power amps (I'm also hoping to replace the Rotel RMB-1075 with a Krell KAV-2250).
Now, I've been doing a bit of googling :?? and have found an old thread which mentions probs with the HTS 7.1
http://htguide.com/forum/showthread.php4?t=8989
The Showcase has also had a bit of 'publiciity'
I am also aware that one usually hears/finds info only when it is negative and that the probability exists that most of the time the hardware is fine and that folk are so busy enjoying such hardware that there is no time to post a comment on how fine it really is.
Ok, I'd like a bit of help please. Any comments positive or negative concerning these 2 Krell processors would be very much appreciated. If those HTS 7.1 probs are still an issue, knowing about this will help too.
My decision is not purely finance based. Either of these 2 processors are within budget. For me it's not about music alone ... it's about great quality technology + music.
Thanks.
