What DVD player are you using with your system

I have a C2 and A51, which I love! My current dvd player (Pioneer Elite DV-05) just died after 5 1/2 years and I am now looking for another player. What do you guys use with your system? Do you also use it as a CD player, if so how good is it?

I am not sure how much I want to spend yet with all the new technology coming up, but wanted something decent and worthy of the C2!

    Thanks guys.

      Jon,

Buy something cheap or open a new account at a bank to get one free.

Blu-Ray is coming out sooner than you know it and you won't care about DVDs any more. Save the money for an HD disc player. You won't regret it.

I'm thinking about the HD/BR-DVD player as well, but I might have to hold out for a HD Changer. Once I went to a DVD Changer I dont think I could ever go back to a single disc player again. anyway, I would look at the CX777ES Changer from Sony, a bit slow on the layer change but the other features make it a one of a kind, and it will change the way you watch movies for the better.

I have been thinking about the Denon 2910 and using the digital out to my C2 to play CDs.

Currently using a Denon 3800 (main player), Pioneer Elite 59AVi (even though it upscales, it's not as good as the Denon), and a JVC modded to play all regions.

I'm using the Pioneer 868 AVI-s for DVD's and SACD's and a Shengya CD-10CS tube cd player for my normal CD's and HDCD's. I am also still waiting, like many others folks, for the Halo DVD player. :-\

Hell, I would even be extremely happy at this stage if Parasound would announce a dedicated Halo CD player!

HTPC here. Running Zoom Player Professional with the latest Dscaler MPEG codec and FFDShow for image processing (scaling). There are alternatives to Zoom that are free, such as Media Player Classic, Media Portal (Windows MCE knock-off), and others.

Denon DVD-5900, Denon DVD-5910, Cary Audio DVD6, Cary Audio CD-303/300, Musical Fidelity A5, Musical Fidelity Trivista SACD, Sony ES 400 Disc DVD with Escient DVDM-100 are a few of the pieces that I have setting around on my C1 and C2...sorry...I had to brag. I'm thinking about getting my 5900 mod’ed for audio. And yes whenever Parasound Halo puts out a DVD I'll add it to the list. I'll also be adding Blue Ray of course.

How's the Cary DVD6 compare to the Denon's? Also, have you had the Cary Cinema 6 in your showroom? We haven't had the cinema 6 in but I'm curious how it compares to the Halo.

hi there, i was using an Arcam DV88+ with the Sil503 upgrade board with fine results. I now use an HTPC with Radeon 9800 & RME 9632 sound card which i find far better....the Arcam is now gathering dust

The Cary's audio smokes the Denon.

I can't wait for their new universal players to come out.

The Cinema 6 is a great piece for $2500 retail. With their 7 channel amp you can get a retail package for $5,000. It can easily street for $4K. Blows away all the receivers out there. The advantage the new Classic from Parasound has is THX.

I'm considering getting a TEAC Esoteric DV-50S (or waiting some more for the Halo DVD player). Does anyone have experience with this multi-player?
The silver finish of the DV-50S seems to match a C2 nicely....

Hey Brent, have you checked into a SDI digital out mod, if so or if you have any experience I was wondering what you thought about it. I am wanting some way to make my DVD's look a bit, ok, a lot better, but a SDI mod with a DVDO I scan HD and SDI in would be nearly 2K, don’t know if that’s worth it. I don’t plan on doing much until some HD/BR DVD's hit the market, but I still will want to do something with my old SD DVD collection, after all I have nearly $4500 sunk into that.

I am the happy owner of a C2 controller and A51 amp! I've just recently started building up my set. I want to start with a proper 2-channel setup and am currently waiting for a pair of Totem Wind speakers to arrive. Only later, I will expand my setup for multi-channel.
As the Canadians seem to be taking their time with the Totems ( ), I'm looking ahead for the next upgrade: a nice CD player or a good multi-player. I'm considering the TEAC unit. Let me know what you think!

Looks like your going to have a killer setup, I found this little blurb on the internet about the Totem's, thought you might find this interesting.

"It is said that only a few pairs can be made every month,
due to the multi-facetted design of the baffle"

Here is the site where that came from.
From helping customers starting out — putting together a basic sound system — to audiophiles who want the best in high-end sound equipment — seeking the sublime in sound. Hifi.com.sg aims to satisfy the needs and demands of the audio market.

The Teac should be a good choice as well. I'm a fan of multi disc changers myself, they will change the way you listen to music, and how much you listen.

Good luck and once again welcom to the club.

Just picked up a Denon 2900 to replace my LG7832. PQ is outstanding on the Denon, more realistic than the LG even though it upconverts.

To answer the question, I just got myself a Denon DVD-3910 also.

Brian, we should share setup knowledge. There's a few vague things in the manual that I'm scratching my head on with the 3910 in my Halo setup.

i.e. the 3910 speaker settings. Do they apply only for the 7.1 outputs? Since my Halo C1 is already set up for all speaker settings, I don't know which, if any, of these I need to do. At first, I couldn't get ANY subwoofer signal with DVD-A/SACD, but tried changing the audio to "Source Direct", and it gave me subwoofer very quietly. So I went into the Denon speaker setups and boosted the sub by 10db. It sounds okay now, but I wonder if I have it correctly calibrated.
                                                                  CHRIS

I haven't listened to a SACD or DVDA in months and rarely do so I gave up on worrying about the settings.
What I recall is the settings in the 3910's menu are for the external inputs only (SACD, DVD Audio)
I've noticed the sub output is lower than normal when using the Denon's settings. I've boosted the sub to max and brought down all the other settings to get closer to normal settings in the denon's menu.
I'll have to take another look at it.
I got new speakers a few months ago and just finished an IB sub a few weeks ago so I've been changing settings like mad trying to find the best.

As far as I remember (I would have to look it up in the manual) the 7.1 Input of the C2 does not use the delay-settings, but does use the individual (per-speaker) volume-setting. So in my Denon DVD A11 (which is the European name for the 5900) the volume-settings are all Zero, the Sub is boosted +10. The delay-settings are copied of the C2.
                                                                      Maybe this might help. Jan

I just did the -9 update, trying to fix my pluge problem. The unit came with the -5 version. The -9 didn't fix the pluge (it still doesnt' pass blacker-than-black) and now my component outputs send only a 4:3 signal. Grrr...

I started another thread in the Primetime A/V part of the Guide about my 3910 problems. I'm hoping people with 3910 experience can help. Here's the post:
