How 'bout a little Steve Ray trivia? How old was he when he joined his first band? What was the name of the band?

      Ready? Go. . . .

Yeah, we have a winnah! Blackbird is correct. It was - as best I can find out - a short-lived R&B effort. . . .

All right then, here's an easy couple:

What's Def Leppard's drummer's name, and what is so unique about his drumming for the last 10 years or so?

Alrighty then, I have one that's harder than you might think. Who wrote the Rolling Stones song, "Sister Morphine"?

Another one: Who performed the song, "Motherly Love."

Keith: the answer to part one of your question is , Mick Jagger. He wrote the tune for Mariane Faithfull at the time she was his girlfriend. She is also the writer of the tune 'As Tears Go By' as for part 2 of you,re question ? I,ve got to think on that one :P

Just hopped on this thread. Got a good one for you guys, but not very well known.

How did Eddie Van Halen reply when Rolling Stones Magazine asked him what it felt like to be the greatest guitarist in the world?

(this has a follow-up trivia question if/when the answer comes out)

                                            Dave,

While you're right on the second one, I'm pretty sure Marianne wrote the lyrics for Sister Morphine herself, and later got mad when Jaggar took credit for doing so. But who knows for sure...

As far as your question, I remember Suzy Q being the first Creedence song I heard, but I bet you're talking about something even earlier.

Chris, I'm, again, without a clue.

I was thinking Suzy Q, too, but I don't recall the band having a different name than Credence.

Chris's question about Eddie VanHalen has me stumped, too.

Here's one to add to the mix:

What Credence Clearwater song was prominent in a late 1970s Nick Nolte movie ?

Who'll Stop The Rain was the song and the movie title. Good flick too.

Well all bear with me . I have to go through the history of this beloved band to many of us. Before earning international acclaim in the late 60s as CCR the fogerty brothers & thier musical compatriots were busy making the scene in the East Bay area of California as the GOLLIWOGS. The bands roots actually streched as far back as 1959, when they formed in El Cerrito, California, as Tommy Fogerty & The Blue Velvets. The Blue Velvets had a couple of obscure local releases, playing only sporadically until 1964, when they were signed to Fantasy Records. Fantasy updated thier name to GOLLIWOGS (a name the group despised) & during the next 3 years, they released half a dozen singles, including this potent punker (pt. 2 of the question) "FIGHT FIRE" which appeared on the labels SCORPIO subsidiary in 1966. "FIGHT FIRE" allies some hard, aggressive guitar riffing with a solid, Stones-y backbeat, rattling maracas,& tambourines, along with some great "Gloria"-inspired rave-ups for good measure. One more Golliwogs single followed before the band shed that name & took on thier more familiar identity, & a more directly American-Rooted sound in 1967. The rest is history. FYI The single # is scorpio 405 from 2/66 Sorry for being long winded {notes derived directly from Nuggets Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968} Page 62 of the cd book} Farwell.

He said with a dry laugh success was not immediate. IMO what a wonderful output of music they have given to the world. :P I want to take the time to thank Keith for starting this thread, & to everyone who has been involved in allowing us all to have some fun. My Hat is off to you all Sincerely, Dave Johnson :P

When Rolling Stone Magazine asked Eddie Van Halen what it felt like to be the best guitar player in the world, he said, "I don't know--ask Phil Keaggy".

Phil Keaggy is a much less known Christian folk musician and guitar player. I find that to be FASCINATING, coming from a great like Van Halen. But wait, there's more. Does anyone know what is unique about Phil Keaggy?

So, I bought a couple of his CD's off of Ebay. As always, I will bill whoever tempted me, so get the check ready Chris. Don't worry though, I got them for cheap.

Geez, I got tons of CD's coming from all over right now, with this and the under the radar thread. In that I just bought a car (whether it ends up my daughters or mine is still up for debate) and new speakers, I'm gonna be carrying one of those signs asking for money at freeway entrances. Chris, even if you don't pay me for the CD's, throw a quarter, heck even a dime, at me when you see me panhandling.

I own the LP and know they did it first and I'm guessing it was Green who wrote it, but I'm too lazy to dig the LP out of my closet. "I Believe My Time Ain't Long" was their first hit in England I think.

I think I even loved the early Fleetwood Mac groups better than the later versions, although I might be the the minority of one there and even though their sound was entirely different.

You,re right on target Keith! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P I too prefer the early material over the later stuff. Then Play On , Future Games , Mystery To Me, to name a few. I think you may be correct on the first song yet it could also be Albatross off the same LP that Black Magic Woman is on. It did,nt take long to solve this one! :P Regards.
