George, I'm amazed. I always thought it was Paul Anka. That is a good bit of trivia!

    Dave,
The obvious guess would be Eric Clapton because of his association with George Harrison and he being the first of the Yardbirds guitarists, so that'll be my guess. But, the third part of your question pushes me away from choosing Clapton as I can't remember what song Clapton would have written that became a #1 hit for someone else.

Eric Clapton because of his association with George Harrison

Hehe, maybe that should be dis-association?

That's a very funny clue. Badfinger??? Was Beatle Paul there? Did he play the guitar? He wrote a lot of Badfinger's stuff didn't he? Wasn't there the rumor that he also sang some of their songs...sure sounds like it.

He did play piano on Rock Of All Ages so we still need the artist who played beside george in the concert (heres a clue) my wifes and my kids in the past sure liked to ham it up for our home videos. I,ll let you think about the last part of the question :P

Well Danbry39 I thought you did really well getting Badfinger thats worth at least one smiley face :P The answer to the first part is Pete Ham the main lead singer of Badfinger the man was very nervous looking playing here comes the sun next to George. The answer to the third part of the question is Without You sung by Harry Nillson , off of the Nillson Shmillson album. That disc also has Coconut & Jump Into The Fire. Regards

Well,,,,,,,,,, Does anyone want to try this again? I,ll see if this ol brain can come up with a bit of trivia. Ok, Al Kooper (not alice cooper) played with the original Blood Sweat & Tears. Can anyone tell me what group he played in before that :?:

Man, Dave, you know a lot about some musicians I like. My answer is The Blues Project. More of a Mike Bloomfield fan, but Bloomfield and Kooper will be forever tied together in some of our minds. Is it true that Kooper learned the organ right there during the recording of Highway 61 Revisited? Also, did you ever get a chance to hear the remastered Super Session that came out earlier this year and, if so, how are the extra tracks?

Here's one: What are the names of the groups The Doors and The Jefferson Airplane based on? The first one is pretty easy; the second, a bit harder.

Keith, being a Jefferson Airplane fan, #2 has several answers. First, the group's name sort of came from a play on Blind Lemon Jefferson's name - original guitarist Jorma Kaukonen was nick-named by a friend as Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane. Also, Kaukonen was/is part of a group called Hot Tuna. How's that?

Hey David that,s takes some serious brain power to get the 2nd part of Kieths question right. I,m very impressed also for Kieth to pull that Al Cooper question out so fast really surprised me. By the way Kieth I already own Super Session (remastered) I get chills every time I hear Alberts Shuffle :P . Now the answer to question #1 The Doors nane was derived from theartist/poet William Blake. His quote WHEN THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION ARE CLEANSED

Kieth to answer the question about Kooper learning to play the organ on Highway 61 Revisited ? Yes , he said he was very nervous at first the rest is history. Now on to another trivia Question. What artist payed tribute to the Jefferson Airplane by refering to them in one of his songs on a really famous album? (a hint: think flower power) And can anyone tell me the name of that song :?:

Well, I wish I could claim genius status, but I can't. I just stumbled across those 2 unrelated facts a few months back looking up Jefferson Airplane's discography and they stuck with me. Until then, I didn't realize JA's original guitarist was Jorma Kaukonen.

P.S. Nor, can I answer the other questions out there. . . .

I'm also expecting genius David to come up with the answer any second now.

Huge smilies can be found here. Scroll down the Archives column on the left hand side.

Now, I was thinking of Donovan when you originally said "flower power", but can't think of the particular song.

Don't worry about the name. It doesn't bother me at all.

I think I'll pick up the Beach Boys tomorrow when I go buy the DVD release Chicago.

Did you know that members of the Beach Boys visited my house several times when I was growing up? One of them was interested in buying my parents house in the Pacific Palisades. Now, I'll ask a trivia question related to this. In what Beach Boy's song do they mention Pacific Palisades?

First, before I forget, Chicago II is pretty good, not great, for a DVD A. The mix is on the aggresive side as far as ambiance, but not terribly so. Sometimes, the kick drum seems to be mixed in too loud. Still, as someone who enjoyed Chicago, it's good to hear. Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago II are still my favorite two releases by the group...that I've heard. I saw them early on in their career and was a fan after hearing them live.

Dave, didn't you mention in another thread that you've seen them live too? I just love brass live.

As to Donovan, they only song I can think of would be "Wear Your Love Like Heaven." Not sure if that's the exact title, but you get the one I'm talking about. If that's the one, what are the lyrics to the part about the airplane? I just haven't heard it for so long and don't remember the lyrics at all. "Lord kiss me one time. Kiss me again." is about as far as I go and I'm not even sure about that.

Could it be KEN CURTIS ?

I do believe Curtis, who played Festus in Gunsmoke, also did a stint with The Sons Of The Pioneers.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I am musically moved! Yes time of the season was on the 1969 lp called Odessy&Oracle. The group the Zombies had recorded the tracks & then broke up! when the album started charting Rod Argent had already started his new group Argent. By the way, argents band member & co-writer also wrote Liar which would later become a successful charting hit for Three Dog Night ! Tha album odessy&oracle is considered to be one of the 60s best albums. :P p.s. if you get a chance go to my camel post to talk about Nektar I was begining to think I was the only one who knew about that band. 8O

Mary Hopkin had a hit on her hands with Those Were The Days, on the Apple label # 1801 & was indeed produced by Paul McCartney. The song was on the Postcard album. Now Goodbye was her second hit & it was on Apple # 1806 and was written by the song writing team of Lennon/McCartney. Both these songs portray a certian beauty that some of the late 60s tunes really had. (just my opinion) Good Job George. :P
