The thread title says it all. There's lots of recordings out there, even on high-res audio. Has anyone found one particular recording that you think stands out beyond others?
What's the definitive recording of "Carmina Burana"?

You probably can't do much better than the versions on DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON.
Schoneberger Sangerknaben ยท Chorus and Orchestra of the Deutschen Oper Berlin
conducted by EUGEN JOCHUM.
I don't have to many of their cd's but, have found their vinyl to be some of the best.
Boy, you and David are listening to even wierder music than the Flaming Lips today. Poems by defrocked monks and funeral music.- Bottom

It's not even close. In addition to the Jochum, I like the nearly as old Sawallisch. Of the more recent versions, the Frubeck-deBurgos on EMI is superb. Both of those are EMI. On MCH, the Thielemann you mention is OK and preferable to the Mehta or the Runnicles, imho. So far, though, none of the MCH versions work as well for me as the forementioned.Originally posted by aud19I've got this Deutsche Grammophon DVD-A:
...and I'm VERY happy with it :T :yesnod: I believe it's the same one Bob mentioned

Well mine sounds pretty darn good to my ears :B ... however I haven't heard the better versions you mentioned to compare... I can't imagine how good they must sound!! 8O :POriginally posted by Kal RubinsonIt's not even close. In addition to the Jochum, I like the nearly as old Sawallisch. My comments were based on performance primarily and sound secondarily. When the term "definitive" comes up, I always think performance first.

by Steve RuddyI want to up grade my 5.1 system to a 7.1 and am having a hard time with the cost of B&W DS8S. My past auditioning has led me away from B&W for my center channel speaker and I went with a Definitive Tech because of the much fuller sound. I'm thinking on the same lines for the dipole or bipolar...-

by robdam1001so far for my HT, I've settled upon Yamaha RX-V1800 and Sammy HL61A750. I know I want Definitive Technologies for Speakers, (my rec Room HT has Def Tech Speakers and I LOVE THEM), but I'm not sure what I need since I'm new to 7.1 configurations. Do I need bipole/dipole? Do they go on the sides? Back?...-
