Eagles Farewell 1 Tour - Live From Melbourne

I just watched and listened to this last night. It has a lot of good tracks and performances. Of particular note is "Boys of Summer" and "Sunset Grill", I found those songs to be done particularly well. I actually had to play those tracks a few times afterward again :B

They have added a horn section that I think adds nicely to some old favorites. The thing that I always find to be a delight as with the Hell Freezes Over DVD, is the diverse talent of these guys. One song will have Glenn Frey playing guitar, next playing piano, or Henley drumming, the next playing guitar, and all those guitar changes, is funny and great to see :T

I don't follow the Eagles happenings that close and as such was surprised to see Don Felder missing from the line up (as in the HFO DVD). A quick Google indicated he was fired from the Eagles back in 2001. I was never aware of that. Anyway the new guitarist (Steuart Smith) had some big shoes to fill and he did a nice job. It's not the same, but I would have to say it was close enough and Smith also provided his own sound style that was welcomed.

It is a 2 DVD/Widescreen set that includes essentially all the greatest Eagles hits. It has 2 audio tracks PCM Stereo or DTS. I played the DTS track and it was actually very nice sounding, with minimal "bongos from left surround" Sure there is still the dis-connectivity of instruments coming from the back channels, however this is probably the nature of the beast of Live multi-channel sound. I just gave in and enjoyed it for what it was this first go around.

There were 2 glitches (stumbles) in the sound, however I'm not sure it's the DVD, rather I think it's my system as it does not seem to like DTS DVD Sound discs. I get these random glitches with the HFO DVD as well when in DTS. It never happens with DTS-CDs of DTS Movies, only these Eagles disks :scratchhead:

Over all I would recommend this DVD set to any Eagles fan. I seen it on PBS Sound Stage Hi Definition, and although the DVD was not as Crisp as I remember it to be on HD, that's to be expected, DVD- PQ is very good.

Yes - I watched this about a month ago and it again shows that if there is talent, then it stick no matter how old you get.

It also show what too much of a good thing did to Joe Walsh ! ! ! !

Do you think so? I thought his playing and singing were excellent. To me he looks like someone who has survived a fair amount of excess and come through the other side in remarkable shape. Eric Clapton is probably the best example of this. Joe's problem is that he was playing hooky the day that God handed out good looks.

Joe also put in a top performance at the Crossroads Guitar Festival concert. His duet with James Taylor playing "Steamroller" is one of the highlights of the DVD. Have a look if you get the chance.

All in all I'd say he's right on top of his game.

Couldn't agree more big burner - his performance was 1st class, but when he speaks! ! ! !

Also was very good on the Strat Pack DVD - this is also worth a listen.

The Eagles DVD was recorded last year over 3 concerts in Melbourne. We were lucky enough to go and had a good time. The DVD recording makes us fondly recall the evening, and tbh sounds better than the concert in 7.1 at 100+dB when had a few vinos with friends
                  Cheers

There is one thing unusual about this performance by the Eagles. They rarely communicate with each other. They barely even look at each other. It's like they were all recorded individually and pasted into the DVD.

This is exactly the way they were when I was at the concert, albeit not one of the nights they were recording though.

About the only difference between the DVD and concert was some more talking to the audience between songs.

All in all I love the audio & video of the DVD.

I noticed when Walsh speaks on the Crossroads DVD that he is almost impossible to understand. He looked like he had chewing gum in his mouth, so maybe that had something to do with it

As far as this DVD, it was top shelf I thought.

I found I like the play list of the Farewell much more than the Hell freezes one. It just seemed more up beat.

I found I was playing this DVD over and over again, even just as background music like a CD.

I absolutely loved "Boys of Summer", "Sunset Grill", "One of These Nights", "Hotel California" & "All She wants to do is Dance". :T :T

Fantastic performances of old songs I loved so well.

                            Clipping issue?
                            by Jonas78
                            Hi,

                            I'm running 5 Fluance speakers with a RSP-1098 and RMB-1075.

When I played the Eagles DVD (DTS) I get some major distortion between songs (when there is no music only talk between the songs) it sounds like a really bad radio reception. Now is this clipping? If so: Why?...

                            Hi,

The Eagles are having a new Live DVD of their Farewell 1 tour. It is being recorded over 3 nights of the Melbourne Australia concert later this month. Release expected in early 2005....

They played in Perth last night - apparently totally amazing form and sound system

What better tonic on a Friday (and a snowy one at that....) than to be forced to sit at home and play with my new Christmas present, the delightful Denon 2200. This review is going to be audio-based; for hi-res, cd layer and dvd playback.

                            Just picked it up tonight.

All I can say is wow. DTS, sounds great! Extras are cool, including the practice sessions.

Well worth the sale price of 11.99 or whatever at Best Buy today and tomorrow.

Since my recent purchase of DTS demo DVD #4. I've been able for the first time, to evaluate the two. This was not an on purpose but by accident test.

As soon as the Eagles HFO sample began, my ears went right up! This is different! This sounds better than it's cd counter...
