Ordered an SACD from Acoustic Sounds... shipping seemed a little high, so I searched around for something to add to the order. For you old guys out there, Dave Mason's "Alone Together" on 180g vinyl for $5.50! Just gave it a first listen, seems to be a quality pressing, well worth the price.

I have an early pressing that belonged to my older siblings.
Condition is fair but recording quality is impressive.
I wager you got a great deal on one of my favorite oldies.

      Thanks for posting, rdam!
      And you, too, Jay.

        Bill,

I've got the original 1970 release on multicolored swirly vinyl. It was one of the first albums I gave a bath to in your Dawn / rubbing alcohol mixture when I got my new turntable a couple months ago. Unfortunately, that version has seem better days! It must have spent to much time on the dorm room floor.

              Thank you very much, Bill

The turntable comes out mid September. Hopefully there will be reviews soon afterwards.
I will let you know when the moment comes and I promise to post some pictures then.
From time to time I'll be posting my vinyl pictures as soon as they arrive so that as a newcomer I can participate on this forum, if I may so.

At the beginning of this thread, page 4 - 5 , someone mentioned something about adjusting tracking for heavier vinyl records.

So yesterday I had contact with the local distributor.

He gave me the following advice.

That I use a cork mat. (This would be good for anti-static and for anti-slipping)
Adjust the tonearm for heavier vinyl. (level up a bit)
Adjust the downforce according to the cartridge manufacturer's recommendation.
                            Then leave it that way.
For playing records of lesser weight, just add a second cork mat.
So the first contact with this manufacturer was very good.

Got the 2LP 45rpm version that was difficult to locate. Ended up having it shipped from Japan and I have to say it was worth it. It sounds phenomenal (if you're into weird glitchy electronic music).

Did some reading up on this.........

"IDM" aka, Intelligent Dance Music......heretofore, my belief was that this was an oxymoron.

                                    OK....OK......cheep shot....i am just kidding......

Actually it sounds quite interesting.......one of comments i read saying it should played a high quality system to receive its full benefit.

                                    here is the utube link

brilliant combination of complex but mature electronic elements, tinged with a subtle jazzy/lounge flavor.enjoy :)........R.I.P Charlie Cooper

I've been on a bit of a vinyl purchasing tear lately and this seemed like an interesting addition. More lounge-esq than dance music I'd say and it sounds fantastic.

                                      Fixed that link for ya

                                        Ha! Thank you!

& thanks for some interesting input in a thread that has been rather quiet as of late.
Hopefully, you will have some more gems to offer us in the near future.

Sonically it's fantastic, it's my only really orchestral vinyl so far (open to suggestions?) and I love it.

                                            Wow......that is a V open ended request.

There is so much classical it is hard to find a place to begin.

I would have to say a good start is the 9 Beethoven Symphonies.

As is some of the most popular Mozart.

Then The Planets by Holst along with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

And everyone should have Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov.

Obviously, The Four Seasons by Vivaldi & one of my personal favorite recommendations for violin concerto is Symphonie Espagnole by Edouard Lalo.

Some more modern composers of note are Copland's Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid & Fanfare For the Common Man.

And of course George Gershwin's American in Paris & Rhapsody in Blue.

I would be tarred & feathered if I do not include Mahler, but IMHO, that may be a bit 'heavy' for the uninitiated.

I am sure it would be easy to find a list of the 100 classical works everyone should own, but this is my best recommendation for someone just starting out.

I had a chance to hit up the local record store and I was really impressed with their selection. The prices were slightly worse than Amazon but worked out to be better without the shipping.

                                                  Got these guys today:

The Beatles - Live at the BBC

                                                        Here's the official description:

THE BEATLES Live At The BBC (2013 UK limited edition 71-track triple LP pressed on heavyweight vinyl. This digitally remastered and repackaged issue of 1994 release features BBC recordings spanning 1962-1965 including lots of between-song banter from the Fab Four. Housed in a superb fold-out picture sleeve - still sealed.

This LP was a gift from an old friend for my 60th birthday. Last Saturday night I unsealed it in front of him and then my friend and I and my wife listened to all 6 sides sequentially. That's the first time in my life I have listened to a whole 3-disc vinyl all in one sitting. It was bliss. Many of the songs I had never heard before. Even my friend, who is an avid Beatles fan, hadn't heard some of them.

The packaging is a piece of art.

                                                        Nigel.

Recently reorganized the equipment rack & hung the TV on the wall (thanks for lending a hand, Dan PewterTA) to make room for the TT.

This little project took far too long & have been without a working analog source for a few weeks.
To celebrate I recently ordered a new disc I have been pining for since I first saw it.
The sound quality is wonderful, as is the composition & performance....

Just picked up this gently used & well pressed version of N.R.P.S. vinyl last week at Jerry's.

I used to listen to this album transcribed to cassette in my teens as my facilitators & I roamed the Appalachian mountain tar & chip back roads imbibing contraband substances celebrating youth & idealistic futures.

Jerry Garcia's steel peddle on this album is as haunting & visceral as any musical instrument could every be.

One track in particular, "Dirty Business" is a show case for why no one else should attempt to play steel peddle, ever.

You owe it to yourself to hear this tune at least once b4 one of the two certainties of life befalls you.

Anyway, Saturday, I listened to a GOLD record I purchased on Friday. Not a record that went gold. It is literally the color gold. My estimates are, this LP will eventually go platinum or diamond. Nora Jones "DAY BREAKS", Nora on vocals and piano, Brian Blades on drums, on Sax, Wayne Shorter, Lonnie Smith Organist. There is no mention of a Bassist, which is really strange, because Nora had a great Bassist at one time. All I can figure is, the Organ is producing standup bass sound, or he is unnamed. But there is definite stand up bass sound! My source was Wikapedia, I don't have my LP right in front of me at this second...

Great album!!! I am sure I will grow into every tune on the LP, though a few melted me right away. More as I delve deeper. I was careful to only take a spoonful of this delicacy right off. There is time to enjoy it soon I hope in it's full splendor.
