I also notice you have a taste for Delta Blues. This is a genre I would like to explore more. I am making a list of the ones you have shown so I can keep an eye out for them.
Yes, I'm a big fan of delta blues. Blues in general. I like Chicago and Texas blues just as much, although many of the Chicago blues guys were just Delta guys that moved up north for exposure.

Back in the early 90's I had few (20 or so) good Blues albums on cassette most of which consisted of Albert Collins and Robert Cray.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Robert Cray at Merriweather Post Pavilion in DC back then, too.
A V enjoyable show, that one.

        Latest lot.

Miles Davis 45 RPM boxset of Prestige Recordings. Doesn't get better than this. Miles, Coltrane, Chambers, Philly Joe Jones & Red Garland.

        Clifford Brown Japanese Import title

Trio of Mingus titles. And the sadly forgotten bassist Doug Watkins. He was only 28 when he died. He was Paul Chambers' Cousin. Chambers died at 33 too. Watkins played on Sonny Rollin's Saxophone Colossus among other great albums.

My favorite poet/spoken word lyricist, Gil-Scott Heron!

I recently got the posters of the Hoffman/Gray 45 rpm Blue Note series framed. I like it.

          Also picked up...

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Drum Suite

Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section

I picked up that very same ‘Art Pepper meets the Rhythm Section’ just a few weeks ago.

Beautiful music, and terrific sonics, my only complaint was the hard R/L stereo mix.

But I got over that after about ten bars. :W

              Bill Evans - Quintessence

Harold Land, Kenny Burrell, Ray Brown, Philly Joe Jones

I just lucked into this one.
Absolute demo quality. It’s as if they are all in the room with me.
If it did not sound this good, you would say it was a SeeDee. Not even one C or P (click or pop).
I’ve spent $50 on new limited run pressings that don’t stand up next to this LP (Fantasy Stereo F-5295).
              $4 well spent at Jerry's

Sometimes it’s better to lucky than smart.

I have not figured out why ‘Debby’ get all the glory, this one is better IMHO.
You’re half way through the LP before you realize it is a live recording.
Not to say the ambiance of a live session is not there, but this one is absent of the extraneous clinking of glasses and crowd chatter while still having the ‘presence’ or ‘air’ of a live performance.

Hadn't been to Jerry's in a while and maybe got carried away. But this time I decided not to leave anything behind in the hopes that it will be there on my next trip (and invariably they never are).

I saw this 10" Beethoven and just had to get it.

Looking good, I think I may be jumping into vinyl soon. Looking at a Pro-ject RM9.1 that I may grab. If I do then I'm going to be taking lots of trips to PGH just to go to Jerry's lol. Your collection has grown tons since I was last there!

It has... I remember when it was less than 100 LPs... now's its well towards the 600 mark....

My how the collection has grown. And now that he's got a new laptop, he can finally catalog all of them (I think he was at 83 LPs when he left off), so that's alot of work he's got to do. I bet though it only takes a few months, maybe even before the end of the year! ha ha

Amazing how many LPs you can enter in when you are listening to them. :T

I'm sure it's mostly Jerry's fault, you let an audiophile into the Garden of Eden so to say and only charge a couple bucks for each one, what do you think happens?

                                          Dougie,

I just got a Pro-ject RM 5 SE. It is my first turntable and I have really enjoyed it! I'm sure the RM 9.1 would be totally boss!

Managed to score a 45rpm version of the alternate take of Flamenco Sketches from Kind of Blue. This is long out of print and commands a lot of dinero!!

The 45rpm of St. James Infirmary is so well recorded that it puts Louis right into your listening room. It is the first thing I pull out when people ask me why I listen to records.

You can say I have a bit of a problem with my vinyl expenditure. It's like crack! Listening to the 45 rpm version Power of the Orchestra now, and WOW!! Mostly 45 rpm stuff.

                                                      Here's my latest haul.

Got a few records. Before I go further, I just want to make a quick note about Christian McBride & his band, Inside Straight. These guys are consummate pros and are the real deal! I've seen McBride a few times, and he never disappoints. His latest album, Kind of Brown is great. I picked up the 210gram double lp version naturally. It's a limited run, so once it's sold out, that's it.

I took some pics of him performing on Tuesday. To say he killed it is an understatement. His bass playing on the Freddie Hubbard song, "Theme For Kareem" was amazing.

                                                            The sax player was incredible.

                                                            On to the records.

This one starts with a calypso style on the lead track, then reverts to a more standard Ellington sound, but with more of an improvisational and free feel than typical for Duke’s iron fisted adhesion to the set score.

Coleman’s sax is full and sensual with a burlesque quality while still maintaining the feel of a serious man in control of a high-powered weapon. He just uses it with a less aggressive intent. The both of them seem to have been in a playful mood.

I'll have what their drinking, please.

With contributions from the likes of Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Max Roach, Sonny Stitt, Stan Levey & John Lewis, this mid 50’s era recording has it all. The right time, the right place, the quintessential style that defines a milestone in jazz history; it’s all here along with surprisingly good sonic quality. Credit Norm Granz & Bob Ludwig for facilitating what I consider a Masterwork.

Reason I ask is I have bought a few of the DVD-A Crimson remasters lately, and have a British Polydor import of Lark's Tongues and an American copy of Court of the Crimson King on vinyl, both about 28 years old and in good shape to unload. Not looking for much for them, basically just looking for someone who will appreciate them.

The band has eleven members (up to thirteen members at times) who play instrumental music that is self-described as "Afro-Soul," a term and sound which - in a recent interview - baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel elucidates as, being drawn from Ethiopian music the band had been listening to that had a soul undercurrent to it, which the band then "sprinkled a little bit of sweet 60's stuff on top" of.[1]

Jazz, deep funk, Afro-beat, and soul influences can be heard in the Budos Band albums, both of which are Daptone Records releases recorded at the label's own studio, Daptone's House of Soul, in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Numerous other funk and soul outfits appear on the same label including: The Mighty Imperials, Sugarman 3, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, plus others.

It was an all Advent ensemble: speakers, cassette deck and integrated amp/receiver. I didn’t have $ for a TT at the time, (just starting college) and could only dream of getting one in the near future. Well,...
