I've only heard Shostakovich's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No.1. I loved it. Is the rest of his stuff as good? Obviously you recommend Symphony No. 7. All my classical is on CD as I don't have any vinyl YET...Russ- Bottom

Got the newer pressing on 180g from Soundstage Direct coming. Had to wait on pre-order. I hope its as good as your version. Should be here shortly.Russ- Bottom

Yes, his No.1 is very good. His fifth symphony is really good too. Actually I like all his stuff. I've probably listened to his No.7 the most - I relate to it more for some reason. Can't say it's his best. Just depends on what you like, I guess.Originally posted by Russ LI've only heard Shostakovich's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No.1. I loved it. His string quartets are really special too. I'll probably be getting this LP when its available:
The world's largest online retailer of high-end audio, audiophile music, and accessories. We specialize in vinyl records and turntables.
I listened to this last night - Brahms, Symphony No.4 on SACD. Bruno Walter was a wonderful conductor, he always seemed particularly good at conveying the emotion of the music in his interpretations. This is a great recording/performance and you can get it on vinyl here:

Warning: Master of Puppets LP by Metallica- Unlistenable
Too bad... the vinyl remaster of "Master of Puppets" by Metallica is horrible. Compressed with no dynamics. Just because it says audiophile version... ignore my earlier enthusiasm for this one!Originally posted by PewterTAYes, my goodness is the CD compressed. Why oh why must they destroy stuff like this?!?! It's almost enough to make me not listen to it. I wish they would've stuck with the sound off the black album (metallica)...it was just starting to sound good! I mean in terms of quality of sound, not artistic material.Russ- Bottom

That would be this one. One of the best sounding LP's I have ever heard.Originally posted by Dougie085.........I heard the Charlie Byrd direct to disc recording LP over at Bills last weekend and it is awesome! ............
And the music isn't too bad.
BTW, that is the same LP you see in my Avatar. Yup, it's on white vinyl.

So I took a look at my 401K and well, with the economy in the shape that it is, I took a hit. Not feeling good about that. The perfect remedy for my blues is music naturally. It's amazing how music can change my mood. The positive effects of music on your disposition is not mentioned enough in our society. I am moved by it. Ever felt sad by the lyrics of a song that you are almost moved to tears, but in no time another song makes you smile because it's so damn good? "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday is such a sad and depressing song, and it doesn't change anytime I listen to it. Yet, a few minutes later, I go from sad to chilled out and happy when listening to the opening cut from Coltranes "A Love Supreme".
I recently upgraded my analog front end. Went from a project debut III to now a VPI Scout, with a VPI SDS, Simaudio Moon LP3 phonostage and a Clearaudio Aurum Beta S Cartridge. Loving it. Picked up about 10 lps, all 180g and 200g, Coltrane, Miles, Billie Holiday and Juanita Hall. Will post pics later.A camera, passport, good music, good food and good company is all I need.- Bottom

Very nice... pics appreciated. How does the TT sound with and without the SDS? The VPI SDS is moderately price compared to the Clearaudio frequency regulator for my Clearaudio TT @$3000! Some people think it is crazy to be listening to a mono recording in this day and age.
One listen to this 2 LP set will change their mind. A milestone performance for both artists, and the sound quality on these is fantastic. The heat from the studio is tangible, and I have to wipe the spit from the brass of Diz and Stan that hits my face when I listen to this.
At 15 Euros used, It's the most expensive LP in my collection so far.

You may have noticed I am a big fan of Mel. I picked up this Japanese pressing a few weeks ago at Jerry’s. The ‘’Meltones’ group were in the early years of his career, and there is a lot of fantastic harmonizing in this LP. Still, enough solo work by Mel to make it desirable to a fan-boy like me. His female backup singers have that ‘Andrews Sisters’ tone, and the quality of this pressing is spectacular.

Ah, Tubular Bells. I bought it on DVD-A. Great sounding music, but it's kind of creepy, having been used for "The Exorcist". There's a couple parts on the album with scary music that just REALLY freak you out, too.

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
I had to work today in order to get the Friday after Thanksgiving off.
I suppose it's a fair trade, but it sucked anyway.
Not being in the best of moods when I got home, I was ready for something a bit more 'Aggressive' in order to vent a little.
I got this LP used a few weeks ago and have not given it a spin till now.
Perfect for releasing some built-up tension :letitout:- Bottom

Shelby Lynn - Just a Little Loving
AC\DC – Back in Black
Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath
The Shelby Lynn was a complete blind buy. I have never heard anything she has down but have only read really good things about this LP so I figured what the heck.
I just finished cleaning them and am waiting for them to dry, than the LAST Record Preservative will go on and then some drying time. Hopefully in a few hours I will be able to see how they sound.
Picked up the below albums last week.

GUNS N' ROSES "CHINESE DEMOCRACY" 2008 :1: :1: :1: :1: :05: /5 :1:
I've only liked two heavy metal albums to date, "Captain Beyond" and Krokus' "Headhunter". This is the third. Its more hard rock/metal/show rock along the lines of Queen. I've never heard any other GNR albums but apparently many of the diehard fans are upset with the new direction. Very original writing, great vocals, production, musicians and sound quality. Its obvious alot went into the recording of this album. It took 13 years to record and cost $14 million! I haven't heard the CD version but the vinyl version is one of my best recordings.

Hey Russ,
Where did you pick that up? My wife is a Big fan of G&R (if I never hear another of their songs it would be too soon for me) and this would make a great stocking-stuffer for her since at times she tiers of my Jazz, but loves having the system on all the time. I need to get her some more music to keep her tolerant of my obsession.
I have heard it is well engineered from many sources.- Bottom

In the States its only available exclusively at Best Buy in both CD and Vinyl versions. Which probably explains its slow initial sales. Along with poor promo. But word of mouth best marketing tool and once word gets out sales should improve. The vinyl version has a free MP3 download of album(probably only 256 kbps). Here in Canada I got it at HMV but free download only valid for US residentsOriginally posted by wkhannaHey Russ,

I'm enjoying it and I don't like metal. Except song #2 which is really intense :?? so don't be put off by that one. Its well recorded with multilayered tracks. At many points Axel has 5 guitarists playing at once! Will give stereo good workout.
