    The Rolling Stones - remastered

    I had a large hole in my music collection that I decided to fill last week. Ordered 8 Rolling Stones CDs, which I received yesterday, and have ripped to FLAC and stored on my NAS.

    Not that exciting, except...all were priced below $12, and all were remastered. Still not that exciting, except...half of them were DSD (Stereo Hybrid SACD/CD) remasters. Just starting to listen, so I cannot comment on sound quality yet, but I thought that it was fairly unusual to get DSD discs for this price. Has anyone else seen anything similar?

      Retraction!

      OK, after further review (i.e., a thorough discussion on the matter on another forum), these discs are NOT in fact SACDs at all. They are labeled as "DSD Remastered," but incorrectly listed by the retailer as SACD Hybrids.

      I verified on my Oppo that they only register as CDs. Also, the liner notes describe that DSD encoding was used during the remastering process, but they resulting files are not actually DSD. They play just like any other 44.1kHz CD, but they do sound pretty good regardless. And, of course, I'm glad I didn't pay SACD prices to begin with!

          I have several of the SACD versions. They were all remastered as stereo hybrid SACDs about 7-8 years ago. Then SACD kind of fizzled, and they stopped selling the SACD versions and now just sell the RBCD-only type.

          The SACDs are all the cardboard digipak type, rather than the jewelbox type. Amazon even makes the mistake though, sold me a CD labeled as a SACD.

              ABKCO remastered Rolling Stones hybrid SACDs

              Just picked up "The Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks 1964 - 1971" at Best Buy. Note that these discs are hybrid SACDs but aren't labeled as such on the package. Look for the Abkco discs, they're in the cardboard cases instead of regular jewel cases.
