I did what you plan to do twice.I purchased B&W 603s3's and lcr600 center wihout any problems(great speakers).I then resold them and purchased a complete system audio setup(sa1750,sa720 & pr of sa505's).The sa1750 would of run me 2,500. brand new.Got them for 1/2 of what they cost. You can get some great deals on the used mkt, just be sure that they have been cared for.

Unless they have been abused, they should last a looooooooong time. Assuming we are talking about conventional drivers. If got a pair of 17 year old ribbons (carver platinums) that are perfect.

      No experience with electrostats.

Foam surrounds rot eventually, but kept in a good environment, it takes many many years and they can usually be reworked.

A place to start looking, a lot of options. Some not so good deals but every once a while a steal comes up.

I know where to look... what I was interested to know was how long they'll last. I'm looking at speakers that were slightly under $20K back in 2001 and are available for a third of the price at the moment... so with 7y of use, was interested to hear if they are gonna last another 3y or another 13y before some major repairs kick in?

What kind of speakers are they? Do they have rubber or foam surrounds? Whats the cone material?

              They last a LOONNGG time.

I had Klipsch horns for 30 yrs. The capacitors in the crossovers get old after say 15 yrs but putting in new ones is no big deal. The old ones would work but new will sound better. I never changed my capacitors.

NAD power envelopes - low cost used amps with tight bipolar outputs?
                by audionut99
Can anyone tell me (with ABSOLUTE certainty) which of the older generation NAD power envelopes (2200, 2600, 3xxx, etc.) used bipolar output transistors and which one's used mosfet devices? I already know that the 2400 used bipolar devices but I can't find one in Europe that runs on 220v-50Hz. I see...

                1066 - new or used?
                by spiffnme
Thanks to the help of many here on these boards, as well as over at audioreview.com, I've decided to get a Rotel RSP-1066.

The question now is whether to buy new or slightly used. I've found several used pieces available for $1250+/- (with all the latest upgrades). To buy new, I'd have...

used Rotel vs HK, Denon, Onkyo
                by stjoenewt
I am looking to get into HT and with my budget, am limited to $1K for a receiver. That would mean an HK AVR525, Denon AVR2803/3803, or Onkyo SR800. the Rotel RSX1055 is slightly out of reach, but with the introduction of the 1098, I may be able to pick up a used one on Audiogon.com. OK Rotel owners,...

Do You Buy Used DVDs ?
                by George Bellefontaine
Now that rentals are catching on for dvd, I have been noticing quite a few new releases becoming available as previously viewed (or used) titles. There have been some new releases that I passed on ( I'm becoming more fussy these days) and because they were aavailable at half the original price as a...
