            Hello,

I've just purchased Sharon Jones new album '100 Days 100 Nights' but I haven't got the chance to sit down and listen to it yet!

Does anybody else like Sharon Jones she the female version of James Brown?

I love Sharon Jones, and she is also a great live show in that James Brown Tradition.

Hurry up and listen to that CD! Let us know!

Her cover of This Land Is Our Land is gonna get played at our wedding!

                Va-Jazz Underground-Live At Smalls

Smalls is the club, and this is as close as you can get to being there.
I got this CD for Omer Avital's performance on acoustic bass, but this disc delivers way more for no extra charge. This CD showcases six bands, but the binding agent is the brass section artists in all of the bands who truly were in the ‘groove’ on this recording, so tight and in the same frame of mind, communicating as is they were one organism evolved purely for the function of producing perfect Jazz. I have heard V few studio recordings were entire the bands are so tight and precise.

I must give special praise to the Jason Lindner Big Band, my biggest ‘find’ of 2007. If you ever have a chance to hear any of their stuff, you will never forget it. Good Stuff!

Otis Taylor - "Definition of a Circle"

A most interesting album - blues, rock, and world music all blended together - plus a range of instruments to complement the usual ones including horn, mandolin, cello, steel guitar, B3 and banjo - plus a guest or two including Gary Moore who plays seering guitar - plus meaningful words.

Otis's great-grandfather was lynched by a white mob and his uncle was murdered. He took 17 years off music to run an antiques business. Otis has definitely got something to write and sing about.

                      Still, my favorite male crooner.

Funny thing about this CD. Unlike any other I have ever had, the more upgrades I have made to my system, the better is sounds. When I first bought it many years ago, I could hardly stand to listen to it because it sounded so flat and compressed, along with the original analog tape hiss that made it almost unbearable.

The more revealing my system has become, however, the better it sounds. Now, it gets regular play time, at least once a month or so.

Amy Winehouse... I never really paid her too much attention, and I downloaded the album the other day just cause I was curious. The next day I bought it. Wow, this album really is flawless. Composition, voice, lyrics... it's a great album.

Yes, "Back to Black", "Frank" and "Maximum Amy Winehouse".

She also has a DVD out - "I Told You I Was Trouble: Amy Winehouse Live From London" which coincidentally I plan to watch tomorrow night with my wife. Why? Because I try to be a good husband.

Thank you for reminding me about him, It has been years since I listened to Stanley Jordan, and with a decent system, it sounds better that ever!

Track #9 is my favorite on this CD, really an exceptional composition, IMHO.

I didn't know she WASN'T new. The album I have is a 2 disc version, with the 2nd disc being a much of remake songs. Then I listened to her Frank one. Back To Black is a completely different feel though. Honestly, her older stuff is just alright to me. The Back To Black album due is incredible.

I must admit, one of the V few people I envy is Jerry Brown, and it has nothing to do with his political career.

to this day, the crimes I could commit if only to win a smile from her. ;x(

Well wkhanna, I listened to it for the second time yesterday and I like it. It sounds like a continuation of their 1981 album "B.L.T." which is an album that I really like. So if you're looking for something new and different then you'll be disappointed. If you like "B.L.T." then you're going to like this one.

I think that Jack Bruce's voice is excellent on this album. It shows no sign of deterioration even though he's in his mid-60s. In fact I think this album is the best I've ever heard him sing. Robin Trower's guitar sounds like it has sounded since the 1970s. I like it. I think he is underrated. I don't know why he hasn't played at Crossroads because he's a class act. Gary Husband has copped some criticism for his drumming on this album and I can't understand why. It sounds great to me. The songs are all good even if there isn't a standout one (yet). That's good or else they'd put it on the radio and the next thing they'll be compressing the crap out of it.

"Seven Moons" is the sort of album you can put on and it will appeal to your muso friends without upsetting their wives. OK, there are no long jams, but I can live with that. It's a studio quality package. It's a classy album. It will be on my 'play again' pile for a while.

I've run out of talk. Buy it. You probably won't regret it.

                                                        Nigel.

"What I Really Mean" by Robert Earl Keen (2005)

Friday evening 9.30pm. No sign of my wife yet but the music has been fantastic and I know she's having a good time too.

Earlier on the top picks were the Ryan Bingham and Chuck Prophet CDs that I've mentioned before.

"What I Really Mean" is a very nice album. It's just finished.

Next up is "Goin' by Feel" by Ray Bonneville (2007) - played for the very first time tonight! I loved his last album so my expectations are high.

All the best for a great weekend everyone.

Man, classic jazz. Very, very good stuff, very skilled musicians.

This is pretty good. More and more, I'm increasingly liking Mark Knopfler's stuff. This album has just a bit too much country influence for my taste, but that's probably to be expected, with Chet Atkins' presence. A lot of "Prarie Home Companion" feel. I especially like, "There'll be Some Changes Made", with the dialogue between Mark and Chet. Nice for some folksy guitar interludes.

A bit repetitive at first, but nice and simple, laid back... nice break from some of the monster drum solos in today's rock and other music. (not that those are bad, or anything.

At the same time as Brubeck and Atkins/Knopfler, I also bought this one from Amazon... "Beyond the Desert" by Dave Beegle. If you haven't heard me rave about this guitarist, you DEFINITELY need to check him out. He does some awesome stuff, both acoustic and even progressive rock on albums with his previous band, Fourth Estate. This guy is such an awesome guitarist, and so enjoyable to listen to. His stuff is becoming my favorite discs.

Almost seems like it was dubed in. . . Or maybe it was just a drum in left field that got used infrequently (can't listen to it right now, the wife and kids are home, so, this is just based on memory)

It may be specific to your release of this CD. I will have to give another listen and will let you know if it is on my CD, too. I recently purchased the LP too, but my TT has not arrived yet, so I cant check it out till it gets here.
