    L'Orchestre De Louis XIII
    Performed by:
    Le Concert des Nations
    Jordi Savall, conductor

This amazing album recreates five concerts played for the court of French king Louis XIII at different times from 1601 to 1643. It is played enthusiastically and convincingly on instruments of the period, and is a delightful "sound window" into a far different time and place than we know today. It is available on Amazon, or at your local classical CD shop, if you happen to live in Houston. ;>)

Thinking of grabbing the Bach set as well

They are very nicely mastered and sound great

Added it to my cart at Amazon.

Last night I listened to Cesar Franck's Symphony on RCA Living Stereo SACD (it had been sitting on my shelf, unwrapped, for over a year--shows how little time I have to enjoy a symphony at home, I've got about a dozen more like that). It was an impulse buy (many of my nearly 30 RCA LS SACDs have been) and I was not familiar with that work. I really liked it. It still amazes me that so recordings from around 50 years ago sound so good. A lot of it puts modern recordings to shame.

I'm getting a ton of enjoyment out of this 2 cd set.

          That is all.

            No, wait, it isn't all.

His cover of When I Paint My Masterpiece is now offically my favorite version of the song.

Listened to this last night while waiting for Becki to come home from work. For a jazz snob, it kind of lets you down. For someone who just loves to listen to music, it's very satisfying.

Also, as a desperate plea to any of you...

One of the CD's I lost, which I am scared I might never be able to replace was a burn off of a record.

For me, this was the best Brubeck album I had ever heard. Gerry Mulligan and the Dave Brubeck Trio, Blues Roots.

If anyone has a copy or the record and can make me a copy, I'd be very grateful.

Celtic Woman - A New Journey.

I've always kind of been into Celtic music especially the female side of it and this CD has some great female vocalists.

I really like Vince Gill and received this in the mail only this evening and have heard it only once. Now playing a second time.

The Robert Plant/Allison Krauss collaboration "Raising Sand" was my "roadtrip soundtrack" last night (I teach a class once a week in Burlington, VT--two hours each way to and from home) after I'd have enough of the audio book on Nietzsche.

Genesis--The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (SACD MCH....just kidding). It had been a while since I'd listened to it all the way through in one stretch. Two hour drive in the country does wonders for allowing me to listen to CDs (though it is hardly the best venue for sound quality).

Should be a pretty good week!

Making a name for themselves in the Australian music scene since their debut mini-album Morning Sun in 2002 (featuring the hit single "Periscopes"), Sydney band The Beautiful Girls have been on the global touring circuit for the past five years - playing in Japan, Europe, Brazil, the USA, UK and Canada. The 2006 release of their second studio album We're Already Gone highlighted the diversity of the group, and received rave reviews, an ARIA Award nomination, a J Award nomination, two songs in the JJJ Hottest One Hundred and high rotation on radio across the country. Ziggurats, released in 2007, is yet another curve in the band's sound, resulting in the rockier, heavier evolvement of their pop skewed tunes.

Looking at the photo below I reckon they're absolutely gorgeous!

I saw these guys in Byron Bay and just had to get a CD of theirs as soon as possible. I'm glad I did because this album is good - a blend of alt country, southern rock, soul and even a bit of funk. Anyway, forget the labels, the band really gets a good groove on.

I would have rated them higher in my review of the Byron Bay festival http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthread.php4?t=29589 except for the fact that everyone apart from JJ was strangely disengaged from the audience and that lessened the performance for me. They looked like they'd rather be back home in Florida. This is Show Biz fellas.

Now, when everything around me begins to shine, when I find myself dancing around in my back yard for no particular reason other than it feels good to be alive, when I get this deep sense of gratitude that I don't need drugs or God or doomed romance to fuel myself through the gauntlet of a normal day, I call that feeling Transnormal Skiperoo." - Jim White

Well I don't know about that, but this is a pretty nice CD. It's sort of folk, gospel and southern roots - a mellow, thoughtful album with interesting lyrics.

Some of you may remember Jim White from the BBC film 'Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus' which explored Southern US culture (and was a little controversial too).

Anyway, Jim is an interesting chap who deserves a good listen.
