cheap, intuitive measurement software for students

I've received all of my drivers, and have a sundry to test :B I've heard the ECM8000 + mobilepreusb is the way to go, but what about for software?

I'd like to measure frequency response, thiele small parameters, impedance, and I would love the ability to test non-linear distortion.

Whats a cheap, intuitive software package that will enable me to measure these things? I'm a student, so <$200 if possible and purchasing off eBay is fine with me :B

Instead of us doing all the work, how about YOU
look through this thread and narrow it down a little.

      $75 for students.

Don't know about distortion testing, but it'll do everything else.

Also, I would go with a Firewire audio interface over a USB one, though I don't imagine it makes that much difference.

I'm aware of that thread, but the websites dont include information regarding whether the product is intuitive or not (big criteria for me, I'd like the experience to not saturate ALL of my patience).

You might as well get started with Speaker Workshop. It's free and not as challenging to use as SoundEasy:

On Windows, only LSPcad really qualifies as somewhat intuitive, but Speaker Workshop is not bad.

Some of these programs have 30 day trials- those can be handy for getting a feel for the program, and deciding whether or not it's likely to make you tear your hair out.

ARTA is probably the most powerful of the affordable measurement programs. You can test it in demo mode which is fully functional except loading and saving of files.

As a beginner, try speakerworkshop and follow Roman's tutorial. www.rjbaudio.com. Worked for me. I'm now upgrading to LSPcad.

I need some answers fairly quick. I have taught some industrial arts (high school) classes over the years. I mainly teach history, Government, and Geography. Any way, I have built speakers and subs with my students in the past. Simple stuff ... other peoples designs mostly (like all of my speakers)....

What software (& other things) should I get for a first attempt at speaker design
                        by JonW
Well, it looks like my first speaker project, the Modula MT’s, went pretty well. I’m now intrigued by the idea of trying to design a speaker from scratch. This might just be a passing phase, but it sounds appealing at the moment. Maybe start with a simple MT design to see if I can get something...

                        Hello,
I was digging through my work shop a few days ago a ran into 4 of each of the drivers listed below plus a 2 10” daytons, 2 infinity overstock midranges, and 4 JBL(vifa) overstock midwoofers. I don’t have any of the data on the Overstock stuff. My idea is to make 4 bookshelf sized speakers...

I'm looking for software to design speaker cabinets and furniture and am hoping there is something out there that is relatively cheap and easy to use.

I can't really afford, or justify the cost of, expensive CAD software and I think there must be something out there for woodworkers that...

Too cheap to replace old CDs
                        by storello
As an "early adopter" type, I started collecting CDs in 1984. Most of these sound like crap so I've been trying to figure out how to fix my collection without replacing everything. Here are options I'm considering:

                        1) Rip them and fix them up on a PC. This is a daunting...
