Is that all the bracing you put into the lower section? Or is there more?
Looking quite interesting, regardless.diVine Sound - my DIY speaker designs at diVine Audio- Bottom

Yes, I thought about adding a brace from side to side.Last edited by bigbardmusiq; 14 November 2010, 19:17 Sunday.- Bottom

I am still debating that, I saw someone else fill it in with a woodglue mixture. My design calls for an additional 1/4in sheet of Walnut plywood to wrapped around the sides.- Bottom

I planned on mounting the binding posts just above the base on the side. But now that you mentioned it, I might have to rethink it.Originally posted by Dougie085Are you making a flat spot to mount the binding posts? Or will they be mounted on the bottom or something?- Bottom

I think on the tunnels I would of like chamfered the outside edge so it gradually goes down to a point, would look a bit smoother from the outside. Might not of worked though? Of course that's just a detail thing and not something you'd see all the time. They do look quite neat though!- Bottom

The binding post I chose worked like a champion! I will continue to use these in the future.Originally posted by Dougie085Are you making a flat spot to mount the binding posts? Or will they be mounted on the bottom or something?

I put a hold on the finish, I just realized I don't have a 3/4 round-over bit (only 1/2) and one of my RS225's is make a cracking noise when played near movie volume. I gonna put another piece of stainless tube in the tunnel opening or even a one inch walnut dowel piece.

Cool looking Statements!
The crackling noise is probably grit in the voice coil area. I (and many others) had it on some of the RS drivers. Try some compressed air around the phase plug to blow it out. I used 20Hz and 30Hz tones along with compressed air to blow the voice coil area clean. The noises from my drivers were easily reproduced with 20Hz tones, so that was helpful in indicating when the driver was cleaned out.Statements: "They usually kill the desire to build anything else."- Bottom

is it possible to put too much air pressure on it and ruin something? And what's the best method for finding a 20hz test tone? I have a black eye peas song "boom boom pow" that seams pretty low in hz.- Bottom

Those look fantastic! That's sort of the design I had WANTED to go for with my original plan for my 4T's but ended up not slanting the top back, I wish I would of though as it looks soo good... I'm not sure I want to tackle another curved speaker though.- Bottom

Here is a place I have gotten decent test tones . They are compressed, so they aren't perfect, but they are pretty good.Originally posted by bigbardmusiqis it possible to put too much air pressure on it and ruin something? Test tones: I've used both the Bink Audio Test CD http://binkster.net/extras.shtml or if you have a computer hooked up to your sound system, you can generate tones with Audacity (you can make any frequency you want with this) http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
For compressed air, I used one of those 'air in a can' things...like this: http://www.uline.com/BL_6955/Air-In-...Fcnc4Aod5xf8Xw You can get them at office supply stores.
I tried two methods for cleaning out the voice coil area. One was the compressed air, which worked pretty well, but on a really stubborn driver, I used the air and then a shop vac (with the hose attached right over the phase plug!). The air was not going to damage the driver, but the shop vac was pretty risky! I would not recommend the shop vac.
After I cleaned out mine, someone suggested aiming the driver downward and running test tones, using gravity (and if needed, compressed air) to help remove the grit. I did mine installed in the cabinets.Statements: "They usually kill the desire to build anything else."- Bottom

Don't fill inferior, I won't attempt curved sides anytime soon. Way more work than I anticipated.Originally posted by justphilI love seeing beautiful work like this.
I hate how inferior it makes me feel.

Nope, I had to bondo the kerfs near the mid tunnels and the false bottom (my crossover compartment). The very top is a half inch mdf covered by 1/2 in hardwood. the sides have a 1/4in walnut veneer board wrapped around the mdf.Originally posted by BiermannNice work.
Do you plan to fill the inner voids of the kerf cut outer sheets?
The bass from these statements is simply remarkable, i just can't imagine anything better, I feel like I'm hearing a different dynamic sounds of bass or a Hz frequency that my subs aren't hitting. I know that sounds strange, statements are only suppose to go in the 30hz range but there's something I'm feeling from these that's reaches deep ;x( . This has prompted me to rethink my subs right away. I will give a official review later when I'm finished.- Bottom

damp rag. I'm chemical adverse on surrounds. I also leave/put the drivers back in the box when making sawdust. I've never had anything that a damp rag wouldn't clean up.Originally posted by bigbardmusiqWhats good for wiping the saw dust off the rubber parts of the speaker? Windex?- Bottom

Curt just announced that the cabinets can be made 20% smaller with the new unshielded drivers and still work. I was able to weight mine before speaker install and with the bases they came in at 105 pounds .Originally posted by TxgrizzlyDang!!! those look great, how much did one of them weigh after the bondo and everything? :T- Bottom

So probably 125 per speaker, that is pretty solid!!!Originally posted by bigbardmusiqCurt just announced that the cabinets can be made 20% smaller with the new unshielded drivers and still work. I was able to weight mine before speaker install and with the bases they came in at 105 pounds .

The CAD drawings were done by a friend of ours and I'd hate to impose on him again. So, I'm not sure if we'll have new drawings or just suggestions to reduce volume if the builder desires a smaller cabinet. Note that you don't have to reduce the volume, it'll just work at a smaller size now.Originally posted by TxgrizzlySo probably 125 per speaker, that is pretty solid!!!

Of course, don't forget what the "Y" in DIY stands for. :W

Very beautiful speakers. I am partial to curved designs and these are some of the best I've seen. I am going to keep this thread flagged for inspiration in my future builds. Did you use hardwood or veneer over MDF for the outer baffles? Also, did you chamfer the inside of the woofer and mid cutouts?

I got...-
