The larger flare is the one that is supposed to be on the inside, according to the directions.

              Outfitter,
I was looking at your pics and thought, "those are the cleanest looking backs with just the flared vent" and then it struck me....I can't see a terminal cup or binding posts.
So how do your connect them?
              Cheers, Bruce

                  Binding posts on the way....

I was debating a terminal cup or binding posts, I've decided to go woth the binding posts. :T I've got a handful of gold posts from Madisound, but I may add a couple pair of the satin nickle at PE on my next order-wanna keep that silver theme.

                    Well??

Here is the big question - how do they sound??

That appears to be an H1212 tweeter, and they are damn good.

Did I miss the H1212 version of the Modula MT? I'd better go find that!

                      Awesome visit to Meniscus!

So, I put in a couple extra hours working on the speakers the last few days and progressed faster than I had planned. I didn't plan on ordering the xo parts until next week, so I had to go with plan B, I contacted Meniscus Audio here in Grand Rapids MI. Now this may deserve a seperate thread, but I'll keep it here for now.

I contacted Meniscus, and asked if I could swing by and pick up the inductors needed for the Modula's. No problem they would have them ready early afternoon. :T Not many people probably "stop by", their shop in the rather small town of GR, but hey I needed the parts and needed them now!

Long story short, Chad was working and after winding the 6 inductors, he offered to take me on a tour of the shop! How cool! :E For a geek like me it was awesome, he showed me how he winds the inductors, their assembly area for custom work, their cabinet making shop, complete with spray booth. He then showed me a interesting design for a customer using 2 7" Seas, a Seas mid and Seas tweet for a HT setup. He was in the middle of testing and showed me the LEAP software and ran a few sweeps to show the results.

As if that wasn't enough, he took me over to their listening room which was filled with approximately 20 of the speaker kits that they have designed and sell, and showed off a couple of recent designs.

I think it's important to remind ourselves how lucky we are to have such awesome retailers in the speaker building community. I just want to say thanks to Meniscus, and I would like to ;x( recommend their services and parts to everybody.

                        How do they sound?

Absolutely fantastic! Great job Jon, :T I only have one completed, and that is only a quick mock-up for the xo, but I think I am going to like them very much. Give the drivers a little break in time, and I'm going to LOVE them. Oh, now I'm not sure, but I don't think it hurts that they look so good too. : It's very gratifying to put so much time and effort into an enclosure, and then have sound that matches!

So I started out with this.....

                          Image not available

....and now I ended up with this. It started a little bigger, and slowly got smaller and tighter.

                          Image not availableโ€‹

I checked the inductors with a LCR meter, and there are no ill effects based on placement.

So any thoughts if the tight placement will negatively effect the crossover?

Uh, did you have current going through all the inductors when you measured them?

The more space ya can give 'em, the better. Do what works in your system though. Placement isn't too bad as it is - the iron core are always a pain to place (among other things) anyhow, that would be my biggest concern here.

Boxes, by the way, look excellent.

Dumb question, on the last pic, wouldn't the iron core and the inductor on the left interfere with each other since they are facing the same direction? I remember on the inductor website that it stated that was a bad thing to do.

                                  I agree.

Also, Darren K. over at PE used to say that you shouldn't be able to look through the hole of one inductor and see the adjacent one. I believe if you can turn the left inductor 90ยบ so the hole faces down, you will have addressed both potential problem areas.

                                    Curved Modula

Outfitter your Modula Boxes are outstanding, I'm jealous. I did finish mine recently and have been able to listen for a few days. They sound very nice, did a side by side comparison between these with the rs28 and the Modulas I made with the seas 1189. I did experiment with the R3 resistor on the rs28 and ended up using a 4 ohm, anything less is too bright for my taste. I bought the rs28 on sale, figured I would use it just to use it, now I think it sounds slightly better than the seas 1189. Maybe I just like the boxes more and wished they sounded better. I also placed a small amount of batting behind the rs180 in this one, which I did not do in the seas version, probably will now. I was also suprised that these check in at a hefty 36 lbs each, 7 lbs more than my other Modulas. In any case they both sound fantastic !
