Dayton 250 should do the trick.

I have been looking into speaker specifications a bit, because I have never really fully understood them and I want to know what speakers sound like without hearing them. Basically I want to do the impossible! I guess I really want to know what the Overnight Sensations will sound like compared to the AudioEngine A5+ or say some super pricey Bowers & Wilkins. Would buying the Overnight kit be a good value? I love little projects, I just don't know all this electronics/audio jargon. I am a computer guy and I know how to solder, I am also colorblind and I have no clue how to read a crossover schematic.
I guess what I am asking is, will I be sacrificing audio quality for a fun project?- Bottom

Any chance you can get away April? You could get lots of your aural questions answered here. No better place to start...
Want a second or third opinion about your speaker cabinet design or other audio related problem? Post your question or comment on the Technical Discussion Board. Hundreds of technicians, engineers, and hobbyists, nationwide read and discuss electronics related questions each week. We welcome your participation
And if you haven't found a sub you like, here's the master list. This may be too many choices to be helpful... lots of options.
One bit of advice - think long term. You won't live in a small room forever, and most HT have need for smaller speakers (surrounds) and multiple subwoofers. Loudspeakers generally work for decades, making it a collection hobby as much as a construction one! Unless you want speakers in every room, try to buy speakers you'll use for years in one application or another.
HAve fun,

I have been thinking long term and I want a solid 2.1 system i can keep on my PC for ages, but I want a sweet 5.1 on my TV in a couple years when I move into an apartment. Then I will go for some Tri-Trix or Natalie P's maybe? Who knows.Any chance you can get away April? You could get lots of your aural questions answered here. No better place to start...

As far as getting away, it would cost me $1000+ just to fly down there from Alaska! I wish I could though, that would be totally awesome! Maybe in a few years after my time in Alaska is up! Any suggestions in the meantime? Like will the Overnight sensations sound as good as audioengines or even the $40 Daytons? I am just trying to get an idea of where the audio quality is with these things. I want good sound above all and I am cheap! haha! These pioneers are in the same price range, will they sound as good?
Also: Thanks a million for the sub master list!!!Last edited by RubberDucky; 27 March 2013, 15:38 Wednesday.- Bottom

Sorry, thinking AK was Arkansas...
+1 on NatP's; I have 4, and I've taken them out in public, so I know they're good.
I have heard good things about a lot of the choices, but won't recommend as things as simple as room placement affect sound quality. ONS are popular, and not just for the price. Pauls's a designer with several popular kits, so you can trust that his ear isn't far from the mainstream. Hard to beat the flatpack deal, too. (I built one of diysoundgroup's Anarchy horn subs; excellent KD kit.)
Have fun,

Well I finally bit the bullet on the Overnight MT pair from DIYSoundGroup. Shipping was going to be insane from PartsExpress. :/
That leaves the issue of the sub. Ordering a Dayton 8" prebuilt is like $50 shipping so I might as well just build my own from better components and get a nice sub for about $200 plus wood and such. The sub master list mentioned earlier doesn't have any smaller subs, its all monsters that would blow my neighbors away. Haha!- Bottom

There are smaller subs on PE's Project Gallery (I've built Triska), and some of the "proven" designers have one squirreled away if you look.

And Carmody's design likely fits, too. I'll add the new Dayton Ultimax 10" in a sealed box of 0.75-1 cu ft with a boosted 250-500W amp. You're in $400 territory, but with goobs of capability.

I like the Cerberus. It's too bad the price of the Neodymium magnet subs have literally doubled! Remember I am in a really small dorm here, haha! There are smaller subs on PE's Project Gallery (I've built Triska), and some of the "proven" designers have one squirreled away if you look.

What do you think of this for your sub ?- Bottom

That does look pretty sweet, not yet built though which is too bad. Plus its pretty large and might be tricky to find the space in my room. I like the price though! Definitely going to look more into that one.- Bottom

Normally, I'd just recommend following Paul's recommendation, except I can't replicate his simulation without using a different driver. His design matches the RSS210HO-4 perfectly, with an even lower F3/F10.
Conversely, if you like Cerberus, the ferrite version of W6-1139 is a drop-in replacement at ~1/2 the price. It appears the biggest difference is the magnet itself; rest of the specs are dang similar.
Have fun,

by RubberDuckyHey everyone, I recently moved into a very small dorm room after joining the Air Force. I was considering purchasing the TriTrix DIY speaker package before joining, but now it just seems I wont have room for floorstanding speakers  . I fear I may not even have room for my reciever.

by JonWFor my next project Iām thinking about making some rather small speakers for use in an office-based system. Maximum size on the order of ~6.5ā wide x 10ā tall x 8ā deep. And try to make as high end of a design as possible with low distortion and such. Given that the listener will be closer...-

Well,
I still can't get my Promedia 4.1 system to work.
I thought originally that I had maybe defected my soundcard. So I picked up a new Live 5.1 card from SoundBlaster. Installed everything last night and still no sound except for some tinny distortion..Almost like the speakers... -
Hi!.
I purchased a set of the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 Computer speakers a while ago and could not get them to produce any sound.
I figured maybe the problem was the sound card so I bought a Soundblaster 5.1 soundcard and still had no results.
The Promedia 4.1's went back for... -
Hi!,
I have decided, with the influence of Bing, to build an Athlon computer system.
I want to use the best quality and fastest parts available to date since I want this one to last for a couple of years.
I have parts picked out but need some advice on a few others.
