    Measuring Resistance issues

Three 8 Ohm drivers in parallel should yield a resistance of 2.667 Ohms. However I just wired it up and threw on the meter and cannot get anything other than 3.4-5 Ohms as a reading.

Busted meter or is my math just that bad?

FYI... 3 M3N's wired in parallel

Your math is correct, but 8 ohm speakers usually have a DC resistance in the 6 to 7 ohm range. This would mean a DC resistance of 2 to 2.3 ohms for three in parallel. Are you sure that one is not disconnected (or blown) and therefore not really in parallel? You would expect two in parallel to be around 3.4 ohms.

The other possibility is that your multimeter leads have a high resistance. If you short them together, does your meter read zero or does it read something like 0.5 ohms like my cheapy meter does? 3.4 minus 0.5 is under 3 which is getting closer to what you would expect. Plus cheap meters aren't that accurate at these low resistances.

The published Re of the M3n is 6.5 ohms. 3 in parallel should measure about 2.2 ohms.

With your measured resistance, it is possible one of the M3's is not electrically connected.

        Two woofers ?
        by juliovideo
I can connect two woofers in series of 8 ohms and a resistance in parallel for 8 ohms total take. ?

I would have that problem in this design?

        thank you.

        Resistance effects on Q
        by augerpro
I did a little experiment to see how changing resistance changes driver Qts. I thought some of my fellow newbs might find it interesting. I used teh RS150.

        RS150 Nominal Qts= .4947

        RS150 8 Ohm in series (16 Ohm nominal) Qts= .9122

        RS150 8 ohm parallel (4...

Any recommendations for a digital volt/multi meter?
        by JonW
Before putting together my first crossover, I should probably have a digital volt meter/digital multi meter around. To test things ahead of time and not risk frying my amp. I'm a total novice when it comes to electronics. And I can't imagine I'll use the meter for anything other than crossover testing....

        LCR Meter
        by madclown99
Would this LCR meter be adequate for measuring parts for a XO? Specifically, for unwinding inductors to the desired value... I'm no electrician, but these items look easy to use:

Breaking with modern conventions - a highly musical 2-way system using an 8" woofer
        by theSven
        By Jon Hancock

This article will describe the fruits of my efforts to build a moderate sized speaker which might be moderately above average in performance for a basic two-way system. I desired a speaker like this both for my own use in secondary systems, and to fill a need for some friends, who desired fairly full range response (i.e., “it’s gotta have good bass”). Also, though I have access to a good wood shop, many potential DIY enthusiasts may not, so I hoped to use a modified...
