Jeez, tough crowd.
I know it's a common design, but I like to think I put a bit of a unique twist on them.
I'll go build something expensive and complicated in the hopes of getting some feedback.

Don't take it personal, things have been a bit slow this time of the year and all. I think you did a fantastic job on the cabinets and it must have been a lot of work getting that paint so smooth. :T
Question, how far below ear level is the tweeter when you are sitting down? Curt must have designed for an axis slightly above it.- Bottom

ThanksOriginally posted by dawg1161Wow ! I'm the first to reply ?. Very nice work , I followed your build over at techtalk forum.. Wondering how they sound tilted ?
Great Work, Now time to move on to something else as surely you have been bitten buy the DIY bug........
It's only a 4 degree tilt... before building I checked with Curt C and he seemed to think that it wouldn't affect the sound... they sound great
You're not kidding about the DIY bug... building these was like your first hit on a crack pipe... I finished these today, and I'm already scouring the net figuring out what I'm going to build next... it's almost like I'm in mourning because I don't have anything left to do on these.
I think I'm going to build a sub next... although I'm really impressed with how these sound full range.- Bottom

Getting the paint smooth wasn't that bad... here's what I did...
1. After gluing the cabs together (3/4" mdf), I used a palm sander with 40 grit to get all the joints flush...
2. Sealed them with 2 coats of a 50/50 mix of wood glue and water.
3. Sanded with 320 grit.
4. Three coats of primer.
5. Automotive glaze to fix minor blemishes
6. More primer on the fixed blemishes
7. Sanded with 400 grit
8. 3 coats of paint
9. 3 coats of clear coat
Sounds like a lot, but it really wasn't that bad. The wood glue/ water technique for sealing works very well. It's easy, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly... I highly recommend it for sealing mdf.
As for the height of the tweeters, I believe they are about 23" off the ground (I forget the exact dim's)... I do know I designed the tilt such that when you're sitting down 12 feet away they are pointed at ear level.
The Tritrix transmission line design is 36" tall, which puts the tweeters at 26" off the ground, which is significantly below sitting ear level (which I figure to be about 34"-36")... so I don't think Curt Campbell (the designer of the Tritrix) was overly concerned with the tweeters being at ear level.- Bottom

If you don't feel like mixing glue with water and want to (maybe) save some money, go to a paint store and ask for 'PVA drywall primer'. Basically it's glue and water and it's used to seal up the paper of sheetrock before the finish coat(s) of latex go on.- Bottom

Nice Job! The slant is cool! Are you going to build a CC and Surrounds to go with? Or is this a strictly 2 channel setup?- Bottom

Strictly 2-channelOriginally posted by M.Roberts8Nice Job! The slant is cool! Are you going to build a CC and Surrounds to go with? Or is this a strictly 2 channel setup?
Actually, this room is at work, where I built them... haven't brought them home yet... but yes it is uncanny how good they look in that room... almost a shame to take them out of there.Originally posted by norcadIn your room this was just perfect.- Bottom

Finally got a chance to take some better pix... (added to the original post, the first 6 pix with the white background)
Not sure if you can tell from the photos, but I repainted the bases to have a less glossy finish... they were too glossy before.- Bottom

by lunchmoneyIt's going to be an 8 ohm center channel, 22 liters vented, using the same drivers as the Tritrix (Dayton classic 5.25's and Dayton Silky)... the goal is to be as simple and inexpensive as a Tritrix, but achieve better performance as a center than simply tipping a Tritrix on it side.
I'm...-

by rdrowleyI have been researching and trying to choose a set of speakers to build for some time. I finally decided to go with the Tritrix. I made this decision for several reasons. First, the price was right for me to buy six of them (because what's the point if you can't get as many as you really want), and...-
