    First pics of the construction!

Construction is going well. We had a big delay because my contractor got really sick (heart) and we had to change for a new contractor really fast... It was complicated to switch in between like this (because we are also building a new section to the house, and another big living-room at the same time...).

Here's the link to the first pics.

I'm having problem for the projector right now. I was all set on the Tosh MT800 (Infocus 7205) but their is another delay (again) and the release is push back to end-may... Sigh.

So I did try to buy the JVC D-ILA HX-1U but it's back-ordered for 5-6 weeks in Canada. Sigh.

So now we are trying to find out if the new BenQ 8700+ is really a HD2+ with a 7 segment-wheel or an HD2+ with a 6 segment wheel... Nobody seems to be sure...

Great that things have started well, Alain. As far as the BenQ goes, I know that they're coming out with a new model, the 8710. Is that what you're talking about when you say 8700+ ?

You can check the BenQ website.

Looks like you've got some nice PJ's picked out! I would go for the D-ILA myself, but that's just me.

Ahhh... the woos of construction. Moving along pretty good.

Did you decide on single stud walls?

Yes... that sunset pic is gorgeous!

No. Double stud walls, with double (on each side) Rhoxul Safe'N'Sound (6'' thick total) with 1'' of air in between, with 2 sheetrocks thick (5/8'' over 1/2'') on each wall (inside the HT and on the adjacent room).

And I have finally choose my projector!

JVC DLA-HX1U (3 chips LCOS)... I should receive it in 1 or 2 weeks...

                  LOL David!

It's a sweet projector. I will have to wait another 3 weeks before using it because I'm sending it to William Phelp for calibration...

                  I did choose the Da-Lite Hi-Power at 110''.

My photos are not up-to-date. The 2nd layer of drywall is already up and finish.

So I have 1/2'' regular drywall under 1/2'' firecode on the outside walls, and 1/2'' regular under 5/8'' firecode on the inside walls of the HT.

All the seams have been insanely calk, even all the outlets, floor and ceiling. The room is completely''air-tight'', with double exterior doors.

                  The wife should be happy!

Next week we are starting the stage and the riser. Then the panel bass-traps, Linacoustic and polyester batting.

We are aiming for a June 1st grand opening! 8)

                      Alain,

Those are some great pics of your soon-to-be new theater. Also, the views out the windows from where you live are quite impressive, too.

On one side, I'd love to live in a remote area again. However, the other side of me tells me that living within walking distance of a 24-hour grocery store and many other shops is the way to remain.

                      Decisions, decisions, decisions.

                          Wayne.

I live at 5 minutes from work, and I can walk to a 24 hours grocery and we have all the utility stores up here. It's a small 45K poeple town. But there are so many lakes around here, almost everyone is living on the side of a lake.

Thank you all for your comments.

We finally complete the riser and the stage yesterday, but the photos will be on my site tonight only.

We did build the stage with no connection to the walls or floor, completely decoupled. 1 layer of roofing felt 30 pounds, then a polythene (agains moist) in the cavities, then we did seal all the seams and all the angles (air-tight), then filled with sand (18X50 pounds = 900 pounds of sand!!!). On top, 1 layer of roofing felt, then 3 plywoods (3/4", 1/2", 3/4") screwed and glued one over the other. Can you say around a 1000 screws every 4 inches?

The riser was made the same way, but filled with R-30 attic insulation instead of sand. Again around 2000 screws in there.

The columns are going up tomorrow.

                          More photos to come!

I forgot! There is no way I can be ready for the 1st of june! We are now aiming for a more realistic date on the 1st of July...

Riser. Done by a friend (a master carpenter). But the screws were all done by me! 8O

Stage. Done by me and my father-in-law, because the contractor is working on the other room (wife's living-room), and because she's wearing the pants...

My father-in-law is building the 6 columns now. We will fill them with rigid fiberglass and use them has bass-traps to control the room nods, and hide the surrounds and back-centers.

Then we will put the furring strips. Polybatting upper half of the walls and rigid fiberglass OC 703 on the first 48" of the walls. Front wall will be covered with 703, and under the soffit. Then GOM: medium-grey upper half and black on the lower half. Screen wall will be black (GOM). Probably a medium grey carpet also.

The ceiling will be painted black. With 703 covered with GOM at the first reflection.

I work alot now, so all this will be done in june, probably.... sigh...

Will post the new photos when done.

                                          That's what you call power.!:T
I did the same with the dedicated circuits to my amps.
I think a lot of people under estimate the necessity
of having the dedicated power lines.
