Rear speaker placment question

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the best place for my rear surround speakers. I can mount them on the side walls or rear wall.

The rear wall is open to the kitchen but there are 2ft walls on each side that "Break up" the living area from the kitchen.

What position would be best? Does the fact that I don't really have a full rear wall change things?
