    Mitsu WT-46805

I was given a 46805 by a friend. It is dead at the moment. It failed once before and they replaced the main board and charged him over 500 bucks. This was back in the fall. He had to have multiple visits because the first techs idea of convergence and setup was unwatchable. Another guy came out and did a great job but it only lasted about 4 months.
It is doing the same thing again. No picture just a relay click on power up.
He wanted it out of his house to make room for something else. I figure I can probably fix it. I figure the main board and the power supply board are both suspect. Is there a good source of parts, service manuals or even a local tech that will not overcharge around the NH seacoast area? Is it even worth saving? If I spend 500 bucks and it works I got a new TV but if it is just going to fail again in 3-6 months should I bother?

Will the Comcast HDTV cable box work with this set? Will I need the HD-1080?

At the low prices you can get new CRT based RPTV's I'd probably dump it. Sorry I'm from the west coast of Canada so not much help re: parts/local techs.

You might try calling Tweeter, they have their own service dept. I don't know what they'd charge though, but since they sell and service Mitsubishi sets, they should be able to fix it. Another place you might want to check out is State Street Discount in Portsmouth. I don't know what they have for service, but they usually have good deals on RPTVs.

I have the same set, the WT-46805, I've had it 4 years now and it's been great. No problems other than interference lines when I first got it, but the tech re-routed some wires inside the set which largely alleviated this.

It should work fine with the Comcast HDTV cable box.

If you want the set tuned up and converged properly after it's fixed, I can do it, and I live in the area.

          Thanks Kevin.
It was Tweeter that actually "fixed" it the first 2 times. They charged my friend 510 bucks for the privilege and he got to use his tv for just over 3 months after the second attempt.

I think the PSU board should be replaced as well as the main pcb. I am going to go through all the boards myself and check for cold solder joints, loose connections, leaky caps etc. I will repair what I can and if successfull will definitely be interested in convergence and tuning help. If the parts bill gets too high I can get a new similar TV at Sams or State Street for around 1200. I was surprised how low the prices have dropped recently.

              My 46805 just died...

My TV has similar symptoms as you. It was working fine, then one morning clicks once, the green light comes on for a second or two, then clicks off. Did you ever determine the problem with your TV? Did you get it fixed?

I actually fixed it last week for about 10 bucks in parts and a couple hours labor.

I replace Q501 and Q503 which are known problem transistors on the Main PCB. I also performed a mod that supposedly stops the power up/ relay clicking problem from re-occurring. I hope that is the case. I have been watching it for the past few days in my kitchen (where it has been since I last posted much to my wife's disapproval). It works great. I will tweak it all in its final position. If you have any tips Kevin I would appreciate them.

                The repair:

                CHECK Q501 (261P071010), Q502 (260P561020) AND Q503 (260P788010).
IF ANY OF THESE TRANSISTORS ARE SHORTED OR LEAKY REPLACE IT AND INSURE THE FOLLOWING CIRCUIT CHANGE HAS BEEN DONE:
                REMOVE J58 FROM THE PCB-MAIN.
USING AN INSULATED JUMPER WIRE, SOLDER A 22 OHM 1/4W RESISTOR BETWEEN PIN 4 OF THE RELAY K9A30 AND THE J58 HOLE NEXT TO PIN 1 OF CONNECTOR DQ.
DRESS AND INSULATE THE JUMPER AND RESISTOR TO PROTECT AGAINST SHORT CIRCUITS.
INSTALL A .01 UF 50V CERAMIC CAPACITOR BETWEEN THE COLLECTOR OF Q510 AND THE GROUND LEAD OF R502.

I still plan to buy something new soon but if I can use this for a while until the HD DVD, 1080P, and everything else settles down I will be all set.

Cool! It's great that you fixed it. And yes, the Comcast HDTV box should work fine with this set. Enjoy it, and note that the xxx05 generation Mitsubishis are amongst the most tweakable sets out there. I used to have one, until it got reduced to a molten blob in a house fire a little over a year ago.

Oh well, I have a 50" plasma and a CRT front projector now! :B

My geometry is off, I cannot see the Bruins score across the top of the screen (not that it is worth seeing lately!).
Any tips on adjusting the geometry? I do not have Avia or DVE but I am going to order them soon.

you are going to have to get into the service menu to access geometry settings. Be careful while you are in there... you can actually kill the TV by making an errant adjustment. However, if you made those repairs yourself, I think you should do fine.

I have a WS55907 RPTV that has a signal board probelm. The warranty expired last month (5 yr Philllips extended warranty). My tech told me the needed part is no longer available - I verified with Mitsubishi. I thought parts HAD to be available for at least 7 years following a model discontinuation....

                            Hi,

RSX-1067 developed horrendous electrostatic pops (thru speakers) that disappear in bypass mode.
From that I concluded that the issue is with digital board, part number PCB 016 E-1399C00.
Rotel sells these for $575 which I don't want to spend given the age of the unit....
