Bought the BenQ PE7800. It is crouching, batlike, on the ceiling projecting onto a 92-inch Da-Lite Model B high-contrast matte white screen.
Sources include a Dish HD receiver feeding through a DVI-D cable, a Samsung 841 DVD progressive-scan player hooked into the PJ's component HD inputs with RG6U quad insulation cables, an older JVC DVD player connected to the other component inputs with similar cables and a conventional Dish receiver connected with an S-Video cable.
The DVI-D cable is 5 meters long. The others are about 24 feet. The audio runs take a separate route and are only near the video cables at the sources.
I'm delighted with the results overall, although I haven't had time to do a lot of tweaking and experimenting to optimize the settings for the various sources. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If anybody's interested, I'll post a longer review of the PJ when I know more about it. Actually, I'll probably post it whether anybody's interested or not.
Only two problems so far, one mechanical and the other electrical.
With that many stiff cables and a single-point ceiling mount, the tension exerted on the projector by the cables makes aiming touchy. I get it squared up and the cable tension wants to push it a little off center.
The electrical problem is that sometimes I get slowly moving horizontal bars. This seems to happen independent of what's activated and what is not. It happened one day, but not the next day with everything exactly the same, including the movie.
It doesn't look like a 60Hz problem. I have what ought to be an outstanding ground, both electrical and RF (I'm a ham, and it's good enough for that). It's puzzling, but I assume I'll figure it out eventually. Any suggestions along these lines also would be welcome.
