So, how'd you get power up there?

After I find a good ceiling mount for my Infocus 4805 and getting it up there, looks like I've got about 24' of ceiling/wall to cover to get to the closest outlet.

An extention cord junction on the ceiling looks kinda silly in my imagination.

I suppose I'd like to hear how others have delt with this issue, as well as getting all the other cables routed. I'd like to have this look as good as possible without spending mucho $$$. Major mods are probably out of the question too since chances are the next folks buying our house (3-4 years) won't want a HT room.

    Thanks for your insight! :T

Install an outlet on the ceiling.

Thanks but I'd consider that a major modification. As noted in my post, I'm somewhat concerned about adding anything that most non-HT types wouldn't want in their family room. We'll be selling in less than 4 years.

So you add an outlet up there and when you go to sell the house you either remove it and patch the hole, or install a light instead of the outlet. Problem solved.

Exactly what Murphy said. I'd put in a outlet, and then you can modify it later if needed.

If you are really daring, you could open the projector, remove the cord and hard wire a 25 foot haevy duty cord then run that one cord to the nearest outlet.

Yes indeed, that is exactly what I did, don't forget to put a switch on the wall to cut power to the outlet, when necessary.

Never place a power switch on a projector. You will trash the lamp. In fact, the reason most ALL TVs have "standby" is they last longer (CRT, DLP, LCoS, LCD, LMNOP, etc) by keeping power to them. Now, what to do about electrical. Wire mold! Go to an electrical suply store and get 1/2" wire mold. It usually comes in 6' lengths, and you will need L and C connectors to turn corners and go from wall to ceiling. It can even be painted, and it looks pretty darn good (clean). If you need an extension, don't replace your power cord and void the warranty, just buy a good quality (matching guage as your projectors) extension. You move, it goes. And doing it yourself is easy. Good luck.

I used wire mold on my HT setup to run surround wires. It blended in very well and looked damn good but it TRASHED the walls when we took it down. There was a lot of patching to do as it ripped paint and the "paper" layer off the drywall.

I think I got this right but all you Electrical engineers and electronic officianados - feel free to comment or correct me where I've got it wrong.

If Total Power Consumption (Watts) = Volts x Amperes, then Amperes = Watts/Volts. Peak maximum output for a 5 channel 300w Amplifier would...

                    Add on switched AC outlet?
                    by chrispy35
Like any normal person, I'd like to use the switched outlet of my receiver to turn on/off my power amp (RMB-1066). My budget doesn't allow for something like an RLC-900 right now but I'd like something that performs the same basic function, minus the filtering and timing. I'd like to avoid a wall-wart...

Although most of us are into Parasound's source, processor, and amp equipment, we sometimes forget that they also do architectural speakers. New speaker versions now introduced:

                    In ceiling speakers for kitchen
                    by warwolf7
                    Hi,

Well, first of all, I think this is my first post here (note that I read a lot of post, and I most of the time, don't need to post anything since I can find my answer on a forum somewhere)
I'm looking for speakers to install in the ceiling of my kitchen. I totally dislike the...

My wife and I are closing on our first house tomorrow and I can't wait to get started with the audio! The first project I'm going to do is installing in-ceiling speakers in the bedroom, directly above the bed, trying to create the best stereo image as possible. I'm not sure how easy it's going to...
