Son of a gun, I guess some are out on DVD. I'd like to have a few for posterity sake, interesting to take a trip back in time with Elvis!

      Thanks,

I actually like two of his movies - both of his Westerns - Flaming Star and Charro. Neither of them will ever be confused with Citizen Kane, but they are both creditable efforts. Now, for the rest - like Girls! Girls! Girls!, Tickle Me, Clambake (shudder) and on - well, you can have 'em Lex old boy.

SPEEDWAY and a few others, Clambake, too, I believe, were just released. I haven't seen CHARRO as yet, but I would like to get it on dvd as it was one of his bettermovies where he actually did some decent acting. He also had a good script to work with, which helps.

Of course not. "Citizen Kane" isn't a Western. :>)

I don't really care if I get approval on these. : Did I say they were for critical viewing or listening? No.

Elvis is the King or Rock and Roll, that's reason enough for me, besides, I enjoy the trip down an era of yesteryear with who knows what all kinds of old cars in them. That's what part of this is about for me. It's nostalgia, it's hot rods, it's pretty girls with poofy hair, you know! It's the Beach Boys, only not. My Mother took me to some of these old flicks as a kid even. So, that's memories.

So, I will be buying some, how many, I dunno. I think I want the Hawaii one, the one where he was in the military, Jail House Rock for sure. I guess I will have to check out the ones David really likes.

Strangely though, I've never seen an Elvis DVD on the rack.

                    Nostalgia

My brother and I were visiting our Aunt and Uncle in Texas in the 50's when one of Elvis' movies came out. We saw it at the Orpheum Theatre in San Antonio. The theatre had 5 or six balconies and we went up to the top one. No one said anything but it turned out that was for blacks. The top of the theatre had a dome and you could see birds flying in it. Not sure which movie it was but the whole vacation was an adventure. Uncle let us drive a jeep around town (we were unlicensed), went skinny dipping at night and stole some watermelons and sold them on the street. Later we went fishing on the Gulf and smoked cigars on the bow of the boat. Somehow we never got into the beer cooler. I loved Texas.

Two Elvis concert DVDs that I got a while back and think you might enjoy (both recently reissued, so they are available again):

Elvis: The '68 Comeback Special Amazon info. It's not cheap as DVDs go, but it is loaded with many of his top hits and a lot of his other songs -- over 100 in all -- some fairly complete, but a lot are just snippets or part of medley. Some of the production is over the top, but Elvis had a commanding presence that overcame the glitzy sets and staging.

Elvis -- Aloha From Hawaii (recorded 1973) Amazon info demonstrates that he still had quite a few appreciative fans after being out of the spotlight for a while. He put on quite a show! The DVD set includes extensive rehearsal footage in addition to the full concert as aired. (It made history as one of the first TV shows to be telecast world-wide via satellite -- the first ever dedicated to a single performer.)

The Amazon info pages also list four movies on DVD that are popular with fans who buy the concert DVDs:

                          • It Happened at the World's Fair DVD ~ Elvis Presley
                          • Follow That Dream DVD ~ Elvis Presley
                          • Speedway DVD ~ Elvis Presley
                          • The Trouble with Girls DVD ~ Elvis Presley

                          Enjoy --

I have both the concert dvds Burke mentions and they are definitely owners. As for Lex and Elvis movies, I too go for these because they are memories of another time. I just recently bought Speedway 'cause Nancy Sinatra is a favorite of mine since BOOTS. Another one I really like is VIVA LAS VEGAS with a very young and sexy Ann Margaret.

Being released this Tuesday, August 24 2004 is the
Elvis Presley Signature Collection which will include:
                                      • It Happened At the World’s Fair
                                      • Speedway
                                      • Spinout
                                      • Harum Scarum
                                      • Jailhouse Rock
                                      • Viva Las Vegas.

Circuit City looks like it might be the price winner on the Signature Collection -- they have it listed for $34.99. It will be on sale at Best Buy for $44.99 ("Store Availability Not Available" at their online site, but I'll bet they'll have it at most stores anyway) although if you move on over to Fry's (Outpost.com), they will have it for $39.99. They also have nearly 20 of his movies on individual DVDs at $9.99 each Elvis movies. Amazon has the Signature Collection listed for $40.43. They also have a ton of his other movies packaged individually, but at a slightly higher price per title than Fry's. (Still worth checking out if there is a particular title you are interested in that their competiton doesn't carry.)

                                      Enjoy!

Lex...I just stumbled across this forum looking for a good price on the Signature Collection. I assume you probably know this by now but if not, all of Elvis' movies (and alot of his concerts) are available at shopelviscatalog.com. I price around though and can usually come up with better prices (eBay :B )...I was too young to remember seeing his movies (I was only three when he died) but am a HUGE fan ;x( , so I am collecting any and all audio/video I can get my hands on!...Julie
