I've grown really tired of the 'pop' movies. So I started to add some 'classics' to my collection. Now my tastes aren't exactly mainstream, but some of you may enjoy these.....
In the house:
"KOYAANISQATSI" This is the most stunning film I've ever seen. A visual feast (true example of a "motion picture") and a amazing workout for anyone's sound system. No dialogue, sound track by Phillip Glass. This movie is where the technique of a entire day passing being compressed into a couple of minutes was invented. The movie itself is a stunning social commentary of American society, (the good, the bad, and the ugly).
Recently received:
"Dersu Uzala" -directed by Akira Kurosawa, Acadamy award for best foreign language film 1975. Filmed in Siberia, absolutely beautiful visuals,
On order:
"Dodes 'ka-den" -directed by Akira Kurosawa A very quirky village in the middle of a garbage dump (Tokyo slum). A visual feast with surreal visuals and characters.
More to come........
