    Brooklyn

    Brooklyn - 7.5/10

Refreshing. That's how I felt about this one. It was a simple story about nice people, making common life choices and about how much those choices, small and large shape our lives.

    Forks in the road.

Sure, it's melodramatic at times but it was told well IMO and exceedingly well acted while being GORGEOUS to look at. Cinematographer Yves Bélanger deserves credit here as I would have happily walked through my TV in to the world he captured. GORGEOUS.

If you're in the mood for something gritty, challenging and 'real', just move along. This was as 'light' of a drama as you're likely to find and despite that, still managed to get me to care about that main characters and their outcome.

It actually reminds me of a film that would have been made in the period it takes place. It doesn't try to hard to push an agenda, push drama, push reaction etc. It just tells a simple story well and beautifully and it's happy with that. It's subtly impressive without trying to be.

Haven't seen it yet, but it's on my list. There aren't enough films made like this anymore.

Yeah, it's thoroughly un-modern and I quite enjoyed that aspect!

          Brooklyn's Finest

This is not your typical action cop film. It's a dark, moody character/dialogue driven cop drama. There is action, but not until it all comes together at the conclusion. Basically, it involves three cops and a ( sort of ) charismatic drug dealer, played by a Wesley Snipes we haven't seen in a long,...

The director of Brooklyn Rules( Michael Corrente ) must be have studied Martin Scorcese's style, because I could have sworn I was watching a Scorcese film.

This is a story about three life long friends ( Freddie Prinz Jr., Jerry Ferrara and Scott Caan ). We see how they developed from...

THE IDES OF MARCH a tense political drama
          by George Bellefontaine
This is a well directed ( by George Clooney ) and well acted political drama dealing with all that behind the scenes nastiness that goes on during the primaries. Clooney is the governor hoping to be the next president, Ryan Gosling his top media guy and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the campaign head honcho....

          Defiance a gritty war drama
          by George Bellefontaine
Defiance is based on the true WW2 story of two Jewish brothers ( Tuvia and Zus Bielski ) who escape, along with 1000 non-combatant Jews of various ages and genders, into the Belarussian forest where they try to survive against all odds during the German occupation of Eastern Europe. The brothers end...
