This is a well directed ( by George Clooney ) and well acted political drama dealing with all that behind the scenes nastiness that goes on during the primaries. Clooney is the governor hoping to be the next president, Ryan Gosling his top media guy and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the campaign head honcho. Cast also includes Paul Giamatti, who works for the opposition, Marisa Tomei as Hoffman's powerful newshawk girlfriend, and Evan Rachel Wood as the young intern who screws up and causes all hell to break loose, to the point where Gosling must play both sides in order to survive.
This is a slow moving drama, but worth the time it takes to develop the characters properly. You start to get an idea where it's all going just beyond the midway point, but it doesn't matter because you have to know just how it is all going to end.
If you like political dramas like Primary Colors, The Contender, etc., then you'll love The Ides Of March. I'll watch this again several times in the future.
A big :T
