    Beasts of the Southern Wild

Of all the films I have seen over the past year or more (which are admittedly few comparatively as The Wife & I are quite discriminant with our rare amount of leisure time, mostly choosing independent & foreign films) this one easily had the most impact us both.

Much has already been written about the film’s six year old heroine, Quvenzhané Wallis. Justly so, but the story she so deftly brings to the screen is incredibly powerful. As much as we may try to separate ourselves from our primal origins, choosing instead to live in a self-aggrandizing illusionary, Matrix-like belief that we as species have ‘evolved’, the film challenges such hypocrisies as it displays how easily, such as a time of natural disaster, we regress to our primordial origins. The regression I speak of is that of the ‘modern, so-called civilized’ group who only react to the suffering of those around them when it is convenient & self-serving. The heroes are those that shun such delusion, & live with the understanding that we are part of nature, not outside of it.

This may be a polarizing film to many.
My advice is, if you don’t become totally engrossed within the first 15 minutes, don’t bother with the rest

On my list of things to watch that are not work-related (next little while will be dominated by work-related viewing, unfortunately).

There is generous meat on the bones of this one for someone with your perception, IMHO.
I am sure you will find it a worthwhile venture even if you do not share my total enthusiasm for the work.

Is this movie going to move me like, "The Avengers" did.

Now we all have learned that at the beginning of each day you are given your pages of the days work. For me that means I can figure out how I am going to utilize my crew and plan my day. The more I can get ahead of the company with pre-lighting the more time I can save production. And in film time is...

It seems to have been marketed that way, and yes, throughout most of the film a black man has a white girl on a chain and there are some strong sexual scenes. But those , who can overlook the marketing hype and watch the film for what it is ( a black man in mid-life crisis finds consolation by providing...

I've been going through my CDs and albums recently, exploring stuff I haven't heard in years. The last few days have been spent in the middle of a pile of southern rock, and southern R&B discs. I've been listening to groups like the Outlaws, Arc Angels, Pride & Glory, Govt. Mule, Chris Duarte....

This movie doeasn't rate the trouble of a full movie review in my book, so just a few of my opinions:

                - The flick seemed like it was too obviously knocking off "Lion King" and "Madagascar", perhaps with a bit of "Chicken Little" thrown in.

Saw this over the weekend, great flick IMHO. Good back story to the others (though there's a few things that are kinda weird that don't fit, but not a big deal IMHO). Definitely a little "darker" than the others as well. I like X-Men when I was a kid but wasn't a huge comic junkie or anything...
