...the 1975 Peckinpah film ( THE Killer Elite ) that starred James Caan and Robert Duval. This one is based on the 1991 novel entitled The Feather Men and is supposedly a true story. True or not, it is an entertaining action flick starring Jason Statham and Robert Dinero as mercenaries and Clive Owen as a British operative.
After a botched job that ended up being the final straw, Statham gives up the mercenary life and opts to a quieter one in Australia. But when mentor and old friend Deniro is kidnapped by an Arab Sheik seeking revenge, Statham is back in the mix and charged with finding and assassinating three former SAS agents responsible for the deaths of the Sheik's three sons. Clive Owen is a former SAS British Operative who is charged with stopping Statham.
Won't win any Oscars but a decent action flick with a smart script, lots of action, particularly battle scenes between Statham and those out to stop him, and one terrific fight scene between Statham and Owen. I like Statham and keep waiting to see him do something good, acting wise, just like Charles Bronson finally did with films like Death Wish and The Valachi Papers. As for Deniro, well this is an extended cameo performance that he just mails in. All in all, I liked the film and will watch it again soon.
