    MGM...wake up

That's it, I've bought my last classic MGM title.
The other day I bought one of Burt Lancaster's best performances, "Elmer Gantry".
It's about many things...a snake of a man who do anything to survive, he has no respect for himself or anyone else. It's about a woman who truly feels the power of god. It's about revenge, religion, it asks the question of profit through religion, shows truth through both sides...and ultimately self is found, but at what cost?
MGM gives us another LD transfer that's soft and slightly out of focus, every so often the picture's contrast changes, shadow detail is almost none existent, and there are frames with burn marks.
The sound track is intelligible and that's about it.
At twenty bucks MGM can Kiss my...elbow
I suppose I could be a good little soldier and say "gee, I'm just glad to have it on DVD"...not this time...Kenny

Its amazing how 1 company can put out such a horrible array of crappy DVDs

They should allow returns on DVDs ( with nasty notes posted inside the cover) that arent up to par in the Transfer department

I'm thinking about taking it back as a defect...after all, it is defective!
The bigger and better your display is, the more defective it looks...Kenny

That's what I find about large displays. A poor transfer stands out like a sore thumb. I am really sorry to hear about Elmer Gantry, though. I have this on tape and was going to buy the DVD. By the sound of things, I may as well stick to the tape. BTW, MGM isn't the only culprit. Last night I watched an old favorite gangster film of mine- King of New York with Christopher Walken and some other notables. It is an ARTISAN title and is not anamorphic. The picture was fuzzy, reddish and dark. Closeups were the only images well defined.
        This is really unacceptable.

It is unfortunate that there is no standard to ensure a decent transfer. Sort of hit and miss like a cd.

"I came here, to chew bubble gum and kickass. And I'm all out of bubble gum!!!" My DVD's

            Has Sony Bought Mgm ?
            by George Bellefontaine
There was a piece on CNN Money regarding this. It said that Sony and partners had reached an agreement with MGM regarding the purchase. The figure touted was $5B. Just hope if they bring some unreleased titles to dvd that they do a better job on transfers than MGM has done.

            MGM's recent batch of Westerns
            by George Bellefontaine
The titles I'm referring to are The Big Country, Vera Cruz, The Hallelujah Trail, etc. The latter was the first one I played and much to my dismay, it turned out to be nonanamorphic. Yukkk. Good ol' MGM inconsistency.

1075 or 1068 defective? Weird error!
            by Tony
I own a 1075 and a 1068 and now, my Rotel combination seems defective. If I switch both devices on, the left Surround channel is sometimes mute. If I make the 1068 off and then on, is the left Surround channel again there. After short time is the left surround channel many quieter than the right Surround...

            RSX-1055 Problem (seems defective)
            by spencer171
Hmm...well, I just bought a brand new RSX-1055. I plugged it into the wall and pressed power. The amps seemed to turn on, but there was no display or the osd. Basically, it just sits there doing nothing. However, the IR sensor seems to be operational as I can hit power on it and it will work. In addition,...
