This has always been one of my favorite stories.
A well travelled one to be sure...men of honor battling the evil lords. The things that sets this movie apart are the performances of Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange and Tim Roth, along with what seems to me to be a very realistic depiction of life during that time.
This is an MGM title, so of course it's a mixed bag, the video transfer is enhanced, most of the time the picture it very good, once in awhile it gets alittle grainy, a few times there is a softness to the image, but overall the colors are good the black detail is as it should be, all in all I'm happy with the transfer. I have seen better transfers of movies this new (95) but all in all not to bad.
The audio is 5.1, but the ownly thing I remember hearing in the rears were bullets wizzing by, everything takes place on camera anyway so it's not important...what is important is the dialog, and it's very clear, nothing to complain about here.
MGM did a better job on this than I expected, and I'm very glad to have it on DVD...Kenny

        MGM...wake up
        by KennyG
That's it, I've bought my last classic MGM title.
The other day I bought one of Burt Lancaster's best performances, "Elmer Gantry".
It's about many things...a snake of a man who do anything to survive, he has no respect for himself or anyone else. It's about a woman who truly...

        Has Sony Bought Mgm ?
        by George Bellefontaine
There was a piece on CNN Money regarding this. It said that Sony and partners had reached an agreement with MGM regarding the purchase. The figure touted was $5B. Just hope if they bring some unreleased titles to dvd that they do a better job on transfers than MGM has done.

        MGM's recent batch of Westerns
        by George Bellefontaine
The titles I'm referring to are The Big Country, Vera Cruz, The Hallelujah Trail, etc. The latter was the first one I played and much to my dismay, it turned out to be nonanamorphic. Yukkk. Good ol' MGM inconsistency.

This transfer will knock your socks off
        by George Bellefontaine
It's a French film entitled Brotherhood Of The Wolf. It's a very long film( 2 1/2 hours) and it dragged at times, but it didn't matter to me, I was just too busy soaking up this gorgeous transfer. IMO, this transfer is even better than the Fifth Element Superbit. The colors, the deep contrast and the...
