This one should be good. Who's getting it? I thought I heard that it's initially coming out in DD+, not TruHD.

I'm for sure getting it. If this site is correct we should be getting TrueHD:
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=47806
The IRON MAN Ultimate Edition two-disc Blu-ray is presented in 1080p High Definition with English 5.1 Dolby True HD, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.-Chuck- Bottom

This will be my first blu-ray.
Interesting thing about blu-ray I don't get. Blu-ray region A is US and Japan. However, Iron Man doesn't hit the theaters in Japan until September 30th. The movie theaters!
The BD that is being released doesn't include Japanese subtitles, but it will play in Japanese blu-ray since it's region A.
So in 6 months when Japanese sells the blu-ray disk with Japanese subtitles, it will be another region A Iron-man disk??? I don't get it. Weird.Last edited by audioqueso; 24 September 2008, 01:51 Wednesday.B&W 804S/Velodyne SPL-1000R/Anthem MRX720- Bottom

Yeah, I think it will have TruHD after all. So we get Iron Man this month, then Hulk next month, then Wall-E in Nov. Will we see a new champion of PQ and SQ, knocking off "Ratatouille"?
I'm guessing that we do.

PQ, even from those who otherwise don't like the movie, seems to be championed by Speed Racer at the moment. Of the three you've listed, I expect Wall-E to put up the biggest challenge, but all accounts I've read about Speed Racer say it should become THE video demo disc for a while (but, not THE audio demo disc, for reasons already well-enumerated elsewhere).
But, to answer your question, I will likely make Iron Man a 'blind buy' as, unfortunately, I did not get to see this at the cinema.- Bottom

Horton Hears a Who comes out in December. It looked rather funny and would probably have some awesome PQ. I would imagine that it could put your audio system through a good workout as well. Reilly loved it so we'll probably pick it up.- Bottom

I get screeners to review, so I've already seen the BD and would indeed characterize the picture as reference quality. Note that it is a different experience than the theatrical version in which some scenes appeared to have post-produced noise and grain added. The Blu-ray picture is quite clean, though I detected no overt sign of DNR. The audio is not as immersive as other action films with minimal rear-channel effects, but still a remarkable 5.1 track.Integrated 7.1 HT and Two-Channel System

Apparently the first copies had glitches and Paramount recalled them. Word is that Paramount says copies relreased on Sept. 30 will be good. We'll have to wait and see as Amazon Canada says to expect shipment October 6- Oct. 9.- Bottom

Pre-ordered Iron Man BD and picked up Transformers BD while i was at it from Amazon. There's a review of the Iron Man BD on another "AV science" type forum. The review said that PQ and audio were both stellar. I went to the theater TWICE to see this one, and I was eagerly anticipating the BD release. I didn't here about any delays though. Bummer.

There were no glitches. Played fine on PS3. Those of you with other BD players probably experience problems on a variety of titles.Integrated 7.1 HT and Two-Channel System

Well apparently there were glitches because Paramount recalled all of them. Sure it plays on a PS3, but I don't see PS3s being shipped with every Iron Man purchase, so I'd say that's a problem. Yeah the BD30 is a great player. I have 64 titles in my collection, plus I have rented many titles and all ( except as noted next ) have played flawlessly. I did have problems with The Ruins and Drill Bit Taylor. These are Paramount titles and the mentioned discs wouldn't allow the BD30 to send a 24p signal to projectors and/or tvs that accept 24p. The work around was to disable 24p. But I had rented The Love Guru ( ugh ) a Paramount title just released and it sent a 24p signal without issue. Panasonic had a firmware update that corrected the 24p problem with Paramount titles that included the two I mentioned plus Kill Bill one and two. That's the neat thing about Panasonic, if there is a problem they are fast to react with firmware updates.Originally posted by impala454I have about 20 BD titles so far and haven't had a single issue with any of them in my Panny BD30. I'm sure George can speak to it as well.- Bottom

Ahhh, I just came back from the store with bad news. Iron-Man is out, but only on DVD, no blu-ray. They said that the shipment was not sent because it was reported that the blu-ray disc had some glitches on it, so they will not release the BD version until sometime later next week.

Whaaaaattt!???? Then what's with this bogus Paramount advisory saying that the BD can't be shipped because of glitches??? I'm still patiently waiting so it can be my first blu-ray movie. :B Is it a great BD disk? Well, Amazon is now showing this "in-stock", but my order still says an estimated ship date of 6 Oct. :wtf: I've E-mailed Amazon to ask.
So what I'm reading now on the 'net, (anecdotally from people, no official statements) is that Paramount did fix an issue with the Dolby TrueHD audio track, and every Iron Man copy for sale today is good to go with no problems.
However, the other issue that's being reported, is that if you put the BD disc in a BD player with Live 2.0 capability, like the PS3, it will take a loooooooong time to boot up the first time, (people are reporting as much as 20 minutes???) while the player downloads Live content for the disc. Every time you play it after that, though, it will boot up normally since the download is already complete.

It's not a 2.0 problem, but a bandwidth problem. Paramount's servers are not handling all of the connections well causing delays. I would guess if you start the disc without being connected, you shouldn't have any delays. That is assuming they authored the disc to not try and download anything if there's no connection.Originally posted by Chris DWell, Amazon is now showing this "in-stock", but my order still says an estimated ship date of 6 Oct. :wtf: I've E-mailed Amazon to ask.

Well, yes, if you don't have a connection, there isn't any way for the disc to connect. The word is, that if you want to bypass the BD Live 2.0 download, you can just disable the internet connection, or if you have your player configured for it, just choose not to download.Originally posted by littlesaintI would guess if you start the disc without being connected, you shouldn't have any delays. I hadn't heard that about the server being overloaded. Something that companies definitely need to be prepared for nowadays. If they're going to have live web content, the servers darn well better be ready for the real-world applications when it goes public!
Amazon finally shipped my Iron Man today. We'll see how long it takes to get here!

We rented it today on BR... Looks like they changed what the server does. Originally on a PS3 it would take up to 40 minutes to load (depending on server load). I just threw the disc in to test it out and a pop-up came up asking if I wanted to pre-download the enhanced features (and that it may take a while). This was not a PS3 pop-up, but a disc pop-up I haven't seen mentioned on any website.
