An excellent, powerful (anti) war movie contrasting brutal militarism with human perspectives. A portrait is eloquently painted of the truth that the war machine is savagery itself - not the soldiers on either side (who, in most ways were alike). The way that this movie is put forward, from the Japanese perspective, in Japanese (with English subtitles) is perfect in that it deepens the empathy.
This is not a family movie at all. It requires focus and concentration in order to get the best out of it imho. I felt drained after watching this. Positively drained. A classic, imho.
This Clint Eastwood masterpiece is probably one of the best war pieces I have seen. :T
