I rented Scorpion King Two because I didn't find SK 1 all that bad. But 2 is one helluva piece of crap. Now, that's just my humble opinion, of course... But for those of you out there who trust my judgement ( you poor souls ) you had better pass this one. It's on Blu-ray, but for most of the movie the action is taking place is dark surroundings and you haven't got a clue in hell what's going on. And the CGI is cheesy as hell, too, and the acting... well, never mind. :roll:

Thanks for taking the sting out of Scorpion King 2 by warning us to stay away. A lot of your description of SK2 (excepting the BluRay part) sounds like "Mortal Kombat", one of the first DVDs I bought when there were maybe 100 titles total on the market and then quickly traded off for something more watchable.

Well, for a moment I thought you were talking about The Blair Witch Project (I still want those 81 minutes of my life back :M ). I too found the first Scorpion King passably entertaining, but thanks for the heads-up. Too many other titles awaiting my perusal to focus on stuff like this.

Well, you could do what I did for the first time ever (in over 25 years of renting movies) not too long ago--stop it before it ends. I rented from zip.ca Hot Rod (primarily because I was renting every HD DVD they had that I didn't own and had even a vague interest in). It was spectacularly UNFUNNY and I stopped it after 20 mins., put in the return envelope and that was that. (I had to stay through Blair Witch because I was everyone's ride home--otherwise I'd have walked out). Life's too short to torture yourself unless you're assigned the film to review. That's my new policy.

On to the next one.

I have shut down movies before, but rarely. I usually want to give the film a chance to redeem itself somewhere along the line. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. In this case it didn't.

Rented Scorpion King 2 watched one minute of the movie and stopped it, I hate wasting my time watching bad movies:storm:

I thought Mummy 1 & 2 weren't too bad. Decent low-brow entertainment IMHO. Thanks for the heads up on SK though George, I probably wasn't going to pick it up but now I definitely won't!

The Mummy movies were reasonably entertaining, if derivative. Even the first Scorpion King was alright (plus it had that babe :T ). But I don't think they needed further films in the series--and it would seem from the reception the latest Mummy and SK outings have received, the well is now beyond dry.

Yeah, there's a market for them. I like an idiotic popcorn flick now and then as a change from some of the more indepth type of films I usually watch. But as Ovation said, most of them ( Mummy et al ) don't need, nor should they waste time and money on sequels.

It seems hollywood is doing or planning on remaking these films as well...the wolfman...friday the 13th...the exorcist...nightmare on elmstreet and more.

According to the press movies are not doing so well wth ticket sales being brisk.

There's been so many remakes of the original 1941 THE WOLFMAN that I've lost count. Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm, etc., have seen enough sequels that they don't need remakes. But Hollywood will do what it will do.

Hollywood does it because we watch it. Whether it is Star Wars Episode 1-3, Godfather 3, gigli, mummy 99 or whatever. There is always someone who will watch bad movies. Senseless entertainment has given way to "we think the public are idiots so lets put out garbage" entertainment. Too many movies are way too predictable, mediocre to bad plots and too much time spent on CGI and special effects in general for anyone to even think of a story line and character development. But we go and watch it anyway hence who is at fault?

I see your point, but I don't know if I'd call Godfather 3 "senseless garbage" and while Star Wars 1-3 paled to the originals, they weren't bad on their own. Also, remember there are a lot of politics to getting films made. Sometimes a studio releases the garbage so they can get their hands on the better film or better actor. You'll hear about good actors doing the big money (and sometimes bad) film to pay the bills, so they can then pick and choose character driven, low budget films.

Oh, that's for sure and as you stated, there will be bad films that help to lead to good films. Of course, I always take into consideration that what may be crap to me may be damn good entertianment to someone else, and the studios know this.

I also agree that Godfather 3 and the Star Wars prequels may not have been as good as what went before, but they are not senseless garbage IMHO.

If I recall correctly, someone did a Jar Jar deleted version of SW episode I called "the phantom edit" and supposedly was pretty awesome. never saw it myself though.

That sounds like a plan, Paul. I would like to complete the set. I have the 3 Godfather films in my collection, even though I wasn't all that happy with the 3rd sequel.
