Shockingly surprising. Worth a rental / purchase. The only problem no
blu-ray.

Indeed June, it was certainly not what I expected, and I actually enjoyed the film as well, once I got past the "semi-animation". Grendel was truly a beast. However, I did hear someone say they didn't like the film, because it made Beowulf a liar instead of the hero and honorable man he truly was.

BTW, unfortunately, it's only available in HD-DVD format. However, I'm going to add it to my DVD collection.

I'll just be renting. There's been so many Beowulf versions I'm becoming wary. I have The 13th Tribe and Beowulf And Grendel in my collection and I prefer the latter.
