    Kevin Costner fans take note

There is an unrated director's cut of director Tony Scott's film REVENGE, starring Kevin Costner, Anthony Quinn and Madeleine Stowe available now. I picked it up and watched it last night. It replaced an old vhs tape so it was nice to see the film again in its 2:40 aspect ratio. For anyone who hasn't seen this 1990 film,Michael Cochoran ( Costner) is a retired jet pilot who goes to Mexico to visit his old friend Tibby Mendez ( Quinn), who just happens to be a powerful mob boss. The problem arises when a sexy Mireya ( Stowe ) enters the scene. She is Tibby's young wife and Cochoran falls for her. That's when the trouble starts. Cochoran is caught in the act with Mireya by Tibby and his henchmen. Cochoran is severely beaten and left for dead. Mireya has her face slashed and is sent to a whorehouse. A Mexican peasant finds Cochoran in the desert, and with the help of his mother-in-law, nurses Cochoran back to health. After that, Cochoran is determined to find the woman he loves and seek revenge on his one time friend, which leads to an unexpected climax.

Even if you are not a Costner fan, this is a film worth seeing. It has its viloent moments, but overall it is a pretty good tale with pretty good acting by old veteran Quinn, a young and sexy Stowe and a lean, young Costner still working on his acting chops. And this is Tony Scott before he started experimenting with all that quick cut camera stuff he uses today.

For a minute there, I thought that post was from Burke Strickland. Real funny, Doug.

All Kevin Costner fans (like me ) ignore the previous post.

So, what you are saying, Lex, is that there really is a Costner fan?

Sorry George, I could not resist!

Okay, all humor aside, I wanted to draw attention to a pretty good dvd that is out there right now, but I guess no one is interested.

George, please accept my sincere apology. I in no way intended to demean, condescend or display disrespect to you or others on the forum. My feeble attempt at humor at the possible expense of insulting you or others was an act displaying little regard for the opinions of others, and even less evidence of forethought. Both characteristics which I loathe in others and work continuously to ban from my own action.

Your suggestions and insight have revealed many excellent and enjoyable hours of entertainment to both me and my wife, which we otherwise would never have, and I value your hard work and effort every time I visit the board and glean fruit from your labor.

Heck, I wasn't angry, Wkhanna, just a little disappointed that no one seemed interested in the film I was talking about. Please, don't fret over it. You have to have pretty thick skin when you're a Kevin Costner fan.

You won't be disappointed. Quinn's performance was likely inspiring to his younger co-stars.

Re: subtitled movies. I have a cataract starting in my right eye and it has been impairing my vision to a point were I had to get vision correction. Now that I am wearing glasses, it will be much easier for me to watch subtitled films and will give some of them a crack.

Let me be the first to recommend one to you. A great foreign film about what else?, but the love of the Cinema! Cinema Paradiso.

A great Italian film about a little boy and his introduction to and love of Cinema and his friendship with the projectionist in the little towns only movie house.

Great Film! You won't be disappointed.

Geez, how did I miss that. It also happens to be one of my favorites. I should also mention tha film Clint Eastwood directed, A PERFECT WORLD where I felt Costner did an excellent job as the compassionate bad guy. There are others in my collection, but only hardcore Costner fans would be interested in them. THE BODYGUARD is a good example.

I'm not a Kevin Costner fan, but my favorites of his are "Field of Dreams" and "For Love of the Game". I felt that the latter one was actually fairly poetic in creating a baseball game as an allegory to the progression of life, from start to finish.

When I think of it, I have to admit there is something to that observation, Chris.

Yeah, I liked how as Costner attempts a perfect game, his life is interweaved. He hits struggles, rough points, and gets tired, but the game goes on, just like life. And just like life, he doesn't pitch a perfect game all on his own, he needs help and teamwork to succeed.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I enjoyed Revenge many years ago...thanks for the flashback George.
And viewing this new cut sounds appealing to me.As for KC...I'm not a big fan,but I have enjoyed several of his films.WaterWorld,Silverado...and of course Dances with Wolves, and another lesser known film,No Way Out with Gene Hackman ,was a goodie.
