    Snakes on a Plane (DTS)

    Hello All,

I know this filmed was just okay, but I found a DTS version. A few months ago, I brought a DTS demo disc from dddhouse.com.
"UN-FRACKIN-BELIVABLE" The sound rocked the system. If this DVD sounds anything like the demo disc, I'll continue to order DTS films from them.

Oh yeah? I had heard that SOAP wasn't too good. Maybe I'll take a look-see just to see what the hoopla is about.

About dddhouse, yeah, I've heard good things about them.

      Hello Chris,

I mainly use dddhouse.com for the "SHAW BROTHER" kung fu flicks. But if this DTS thing works, I'll be ordering DVD from them. The sound quality is a major difference from our NTSC stuff. Ummmm, I'll try a dolby digital DVD to see / hear if there's a difference. Do you know the bitrate here with dolby & DTS dvds?

June, Dolby Digital is normally 448 kbps. Half-rate DTS (the "standard" now) is 754 kbps and full-rate DTS (no-one is using this any more, unfortunately) is 1509 kbps. If you can find a full-rate DTS DVD you are in for a real treat.

The copy of "Snakes on a Plane" that I bought at Circuit City has both DD 5.1 EX and DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete soundtracks in addition to a Stereo Surround Sound track. It also included an "Exclusive Bonus Disc" with "extra behind the scenes footage from the movie and more!". Of course what convinced me to buy it was the Academy Award quality movie, not the extras. :>)

I haven't seen it at all. Just the description and the comments I've read haven't caused me to want to, either. :nonod:

It was ~ 1 1/2 hours of mindless entertainment, but I certainly would love to have heard the DTS version. Strictly a rental in my humble opinion.

Maybe I can borrow your copy Burke .

                  Peace and blessings,

I don't mind a little mindless stuff once in awhile. I'll likely rent it.

                      David,

June, it's easy to find the bit-rate on most DVDs. Just go to the WidescreenReview website and do a search on the title. Scroll down the page to the technical details and if they've reviewed the title the info will be there. There's also another website that I don't have bookmarked that tracks ALL DTS titles - maybe someone can hop in with the address. . . ?

As far as the demo disc is concerned, I'm betting it's all 754 kbps as no-one is producing full-rate DTS anymore. They'd be making a big deal out of it if they were.

I watched this film last night. I enjoyed it. I thought it was very funny when it needed to be. And, it made me jump three different times during the film (which was very strange...I never jump when viewing a film. Nor am I afraid of snakes.). I am really shocked this was/is so poorly recieved. But films like Army of Darkness, Airplane, and the likes go down in history as cool to see films. I guess I'm one of the few that just want to be entertained when I watch a film. And that does not require that each film I watch, be thought provoking. But to each his own.

I used the DTS-ES track with THX post processing. It was a very dynamic experience. With crystal clear audio.

                            Region 3

                            Hello All,

We couldn't play this DVD because it a "Region 3" DVD. This was my fault. Some DVD states "All Regions." Now it time to find a "Region Free" DVD player.

Finally got around to renting this. I didn't find it all that bad. The DTS ES soundtrack was okay, but I felt the LFE was a bit wanting. But this is definitely in the "mindless" category as far as story ( and acting ) goes.
