    Cars

This is a great movie all around!!! Cars is about a hot-shot rookie racecar that has become too self-centered, and on his chance for victory of the cup, luck turns his life around and the hot-shot now finds himself alone. Good story line, and lots of funny scenes. My favorite thing without a doubt was the SQ. Perfect roaring cars, engines revving smoothly. This movie will make love to any car-lover's ears! :B I already watched it twice tonight. Ha ha. Picture quality was as Pixar usual, pretty amazing. Highly recommend this movie to any car lover, or just anyone with kids. My year and a half old kid doesn't really get to drawn in by tv, but he loved this movie.

Two things that I found on this DVD. Disney is tricky.
    1) Cars was not the last film Disney had planned to do with Pixar. They have a trailer of their next money.
    2) Blue-Ray is going to win the HD race. I didn't know this, but just saw on the DVD that Disney has decided to use Blue-Ray to recreate their movies. I would think that's a pretty big customer right there.

But back to the movie, I give it :5:
    Enjoy!

Well for me this movie fell very short. I just found it too boring and I like cars. The story just seemed to take it's time and drag. The first 40mins was great but once it moves into the town it just goes on and on. I read that the PQ/SQ are awesome as per usual for Pixar.

Regarding the HD war it's still a good race with HD-DVD having more titles out and Blueray entering a bit late. I think someone on this forum mentioned that the Porn industry will determine who will win the war depending on who they choose to side with. Blueray also has 20th Century and with Starwars in their back pocket, well it could easily turn the tide. Dont underestermate the power of the force....umm I mean the Starwars release in HD. Waiting until they release a multi-player able to play both formats if thats what it comes down to. I guess it's too early to tell yet. Ho hum more waiting.

Very cool animated movie. I don't think my 4 yr old blinked for about an hour and a half. He was glued to it.

        Their next money? Freudian slip?

On the deal thing, you need to read the papers a bit more. Disney bought Pixar, and the boys from the bay area are now in charge of our animation group. So Pixar is Disney. All of there films from here on out will be under the Walt Disney Pictures brand.

And some coworkers have seen some bits of Ratatouille, the next release and say it's quite good.

Oh, and while I have not had a chance to watch the whole feature yet, I was pretty floored by the image on the Mater short. The usual DVD motion artifacts were there, but in the more static shots the clarity was really stunning.

See our discussion on this movie over in the "Movies" subforum. In short, I thought that this one was probably the weakest of the Pixar movies, but still awesome. Very good.

I'll be picking this one up. HOWEVER, and on the high-def note, in my mind this should be THE definitive movie to start the high-def craze. Released right as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are starting up. It was definitely created as a high-def master, with lots of colorful, sharp scenes with great surround sound capability. This one should be released NOW. So, Disney is releasing several movies on BD like "Chicken Little", but "Cars" is not on their high-def list yet. :wtf: My guess is, they're doing the standard "milk them for their money" thing, and it will be released in high-def in about 6 months, trying to make everybody buy it twice. Well, I loved the movie, and want it, but will be waiting for the high-def version, thank you very much. (unless I see a deal I just CAN'T pass up)

As for Pixar/Disney, yes, they made up, so Pixar will continue to produce under Disney.

They didn't just make up. They are now the same company. John Lasseter is, in fact, my boss to a certain degree now.

Not my favorite Pixar movie, but it was worth the rent. Picture and sound are excellent, just was a little lacking in story and humor for me....... One thing on this DVD that I haven't seen before was a THX selection in the menu and you can actually send out test tones to all your speakers from the menu........

Got no Monster, Bose or Microsoft products anywhere in my house. But Gates certainly holds sway over the IT stuff at work.

No idea. My guess would be the lack of affordable BD players means it would be a low volume item, and Disney is committed as a BD supporter right now AFAIK. It will come though. I bought the DVD, and will give it to a deserving freiend with children when the BD comes out (and I have a PS3 to watch it on).

                            Finaly saw this tonight.

Great SQ & PQ and ok movie. I wasnt blown away with the movie from and entertainment standpoint. There were some funny parts and some awwwww parts, but it was no Monster's Inc. IMO.

Just bought it and watched it on DVD after all. Good PQ and SQ. I think the crash in the opening race scene is pretty close to reference quality for both audio and video.

WHY, oh WHY, oh WHY, Disney, have you not released this in HD? Blu-Ray would be most likely from Disney. I kept thinking in many scenes, particularly the big racing scenes, that it would be SO much better in true high-def. I tell you, if I were Disney, I would have released this in SD and Blu-Ray right from the start, right at the same time as the PS3. If Disney is partnered up with Blu-Ray and has an interest in making it work, this could have been a huge partnership success.

With the popularity of Pixar and the movie, I would have marketed it BIG TIME, saying, "hey, here's a very popular movie that everybody's going to want to have, it's high quality, here's what is possible with Blu-Ray! And oh, by the way, the PS3 just got released, with a cost-effective Blu-Ray player that will make this movie look awesome. You get the public more interested in Blu-Ray, get PS3 gamers more interested in covergence to movies as well, and get A/V geeks like us hyped up on Blu-Ray, and we have a movie that DEFINES high definition movie quality with BD starting, that we can use as reference material for quite some time before something better gets released.

Yes, I expect Disney/Pixar to release Cars in HD, and I'm sure it will be good when it is. Opportunity got missed, though.

Well... Disney has released several other movies on Blu-Ray already. I GUARANTEE Cars would sell an order of magnitude more, both now and later, than "Haunted Mansion." I mean, come on....

But with Cars, they are guaranteed a near 100% double dip, since they know all the PQ geeks (us) will buy the DVD, AND the BD when it is released.

FINALLY, Cars has been announced for release on BD. Summer 2007. (which sounds a bit too vague to be certain that it's going to happen)

I have wanted to see this since it became available for rental, but the wife said I should wait till our grandson is here! We pick him up at the airport this afternoon, (he is five, and is making his first solo trip from Tampa/St Pete to Pittsburgh) and my Netflix copy came today.
Not sure what I'm more excited about?!?!?!?

Best part is, I’ll have someone to play with!
On a side note, he told me on the phone the other day we would have to go to the pawn shop.
When I asked why, he said since I don’t have X-box, we need to go get one!

Dang! these kids today! It's like they are 20 yo's in little bodies!

When I asked why, he said since I don’t have X-box, we need to go get one!

Dang! these kids today! It's like they are 20 yo's in little bodies!

Actually, I was thinking of having him check my set-up on my RSP-1066 pre-pro, and then have him tune up my Dell tower. Then he can show my wife how to use her cell phone.

BTW, he fell asleep about 20 minutes into the film, (of course he had seen it about ten times already, but was happy to watch it again). He had a big day and was worn out, believe it or not ( he was born on the first of June, which is the first day of hurricane season, so I nicknamed him Herk, and he has gone on to prove my insight in his naming).

The wife and I watched the entire film and absolutely loved it.

My daughter and I saw this at the cinema twice (second time it was to bring Grandpapa to see it--my dad is a car nut and while animated films are not his general "cuppa tea", he enjoyed it as well (recognized a lot of older models I didn't notice or recognized the first time around)). It's in the collection and gets a regular viewing (along with The Incredibles and Monster's Inc.--the other two favourite Pixars in our collection).
