    Thank You For Smoking

Although this movie attracted some notice among our members when it was in commercial theaters http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthr...hlight=smoking perhaps now that it is available on DVD, more people will find out about it and enjoy it for what it is -- well made, enjoyable satire that alllows several accomplished actors to take a sly comic turn on what could have been a rather offensive subject if handled with less finesse. It exposed a lot more than just smoking to some deserved ridicule. Warning -- no car chases or explosions -- most of the "action" is in the dialog. However there are a couple of scenes that shed a whole new light on investigative reporting. :>)

Frankly, this is the first new movie I've been able to sit all the way through in one sitting in about a month, (not because I didn't have the time; the others just didn't hold my interest -- I decided to spend the time listening to music when I found the movies less engaging). I'm looking forward to seeing it again -- after I give a few others in the unwatched DVDs pile a spin, including the highly anticipated "United 93", the extended cut of "Kingdom of Heaven" and "X -- The Last Stand" (a.k.a. "X3").

Yeah, I had a discussion thread going on this one over in the movie sub-forum.

Definitely a recommended movie. Satire is SO hard to do right, and this one does is perfectly.

I had to inform the members, that we are now a non-smoking forum, we do have a designated area for people that must, but please don't be smoking in the main part of the forum.

Now, girls showing up here can be smoking hot, we don't mind that at all. I should say it is only tobacco that...

I had never heard of this movie until I was watching "Ebert and Roeper". Both Roger and Richard really had some great things to say about the movie, and have repeatedly picked it as their pick for one movie to watch in the theaters if you could.

Just watched it here in the...

I really wanted to like this movie. I'm a racing fan and when I heard Sly Stalone was making a racing movie, I hopped it would be good. He initially wanted to do a F1 movie, but the boss there declined. So it became a movie based on CART, the pinical of open wheel racing in North...

My buttkicker picked up a smoking habit. I saw on a different forum some people had issues with them catching fire or smoking, but thought it was a once in a million sort of thing - until it happened to me.
I was not even driving it hard, normal listening level when it smoked. A nice little flash,...

Tommorow night's the end of the NHL playoffs and I can get my life back in order. I don't have as many unwatched DVDs sitting on the rack as I thought I would have, but there's the Marilyn Monroe (she sure looks great for 75 ) box set, 4 hours of Cleopatra, Traffic, etc. Of course, then there's the...
