If you haven't seen this one yet I highly recommend it. Definitely worth a purchase.

Too bad its cropped. NO OAR NO SALE!!
DVD Aspect ratio is 1.78. Theatrical Aspect ratio is 2.35.
I did really like the movie though but that's besides the point.Last edited by Shane Martin; 19 January 2006, 14:25 Thursday.- Bottom

Well, I know very little about the movie, but it does sound interesting. I'd be interested in a purchase, but yes, the cropping does turn me off.
Shane, I actually haven't heard much about this issue. How do you know when a movie has been cropped in a widescreen version? (I can understand that a 16x9 presentation of a movie would be a good indication as that isn't a standard format for film)CHRIS
Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

You just have to do your research on the film before you buy. I use IMDB to look at the OAR and I saw this film at the theater so I'm well aware of how it was shown(wide). The cropping is around 20% of the film and bad too
A general indication is the 1.78 aspect ratio. Compare with IMDB and you should come to a quick conclusion.- Bottom

It's not that bad and the DTS-ES track is phenominal, some of the gun shots remind me easily of open range. Extremely powerful!!!
You can tell there is a little digital grain to the film (through compression or meant to be that way I'm not sure)...but all in all it doesn't detract from the film all too much.
The sound is definitely one of my favorite things about the movie, hearing the gun fights in the distance in every direction... very good...the car exploding really made me jump too (even knowning it was there)...very good job on the soundtrack. It's not the greatest sound track, don't think that...but it's done very well for the type of film it is.Digital Audio makes me Happy.

Just watched this last night from Netflix. The DVD offers DTS ES and Dolby EX or whatever. The surround is very good in scenes and overall I liked the movie, but it is a bit disturbing. I don't want to give away anything but it is based on actual events and the I thought the acting was good. The picture quality was just alright and since a fair amount of the story is set in the late 80's and 90's that might be by design. I am not sure I would watch this several times, but it might might be worth a purchase to show off some pretty good surround sound. There is some LFE, but nothing like some of the many other options that are available for Demo. I would have liked for Cage to use a good Russian accent but either he wasnt asked to or couldnt.....I suspect he wasnt asked to since he does speak some Russian in the movie I am willing to think he could have done it.
I will go 4 out of 5- Bottom
