From the Director/Writer of Truman Show & Gattaca, Lord of War

    Director: Andrew Niccol
    Writer: Andrew Niccol
Main Actors/Actresses: Nicolas Cage, Brigette Moynahan(I Robot ring a bell?), and Ethan Hawke.

Nicolas Cage masterfully portrays a gun runner named Yuri. Yuri has decided that working in his parents' restaurant in NYC is not good enough for him so he decides that he wants to sell guns. His opinion is that war will always be here so he might as well profit from it. He takes no sides as long as the deal is done. He is completely numb to reality. The movie is both a satire on the post Cold War period and somewhat of a comedy while also maintaining some action/adventure elements. The opening montage is magnificent and definitely in many ways shows how the story is headed. The story is not political(unless you want to be one) nor is it anti gun.

As the story develops we find out about his one true love played by Bridgette Moynahan but there isn't too much depth on this character. The same goes for Interpol Agent Jack Valentine played by Ethan Hawke. He's a bit too naive to believe that such guys like Yuri are needed by governments of the world. The narration parts often don't fit well but here they add to the film.

It's part action movie, part character study, part satire all wrapped up in a nice 122 minute package.

Definitely worth seeing. 8.5 out of 10.

      CD writer
      by borderdad
Hi, I hope this is the right forum for this question. I burned some mp3's onto CD's and noticed a lot of static and some skipping. Is the likely culprit my writer or maybe my software? I just ordered a new soundcard but I don't imagine that's related to this problem. I'm running an HP desktop. It's...

This is a Canadian made World War One film starring Paul Gross, a well known and respected Canadian actor who also wrote and directed Passchendaele. Gross was intrigued by a story told to him by his grandfather, Michael Dunne, about how he bayoneted a young German to death and how it haunted him until...

      RTS Real War
      by Bing Fung

Any thoughts on the RTS game "Real War"? I just downloaded the demo of it and may purchase the full game. Real war has the elements that I like, strategic gaming with modern day weapons. As much as I liked "Age Of Empires", I longed for a RTS game where it was not...

      War is hell...
      by George Bellefontaine
But there isn't a helluva lot of war in Pearl Harbour. It is a story of two friends and the woiman they both love, told against the backdrop of the second world war, before the US got involved, and after (Pearl Harbour).

The movie drags a bit at 3 hours. And the war action all told probably...

It was THE YOUNG LIONS. released in 1958, it is based on a novel by Irwin Shaw. It was a bestseller in its time, and the film was hot at the boxoffice. It stars a young Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Dean Martin. It is more about character development and doesn't have a lot of actual war action...
